Wife has decided she would like satellite radio now. A year ago I gave her a Sony CDX-MP40 (no longer sold now) satellite ready radio. I know I need an antenna (have seen some slick mounts in our parking lot where the coax runs under the windshield gasket). Have seen "thingys" at wallyworld for sony satellite ready radio/players but, am lost at what I need to add. My search at Crutchfield was either ill defined or something because, I am still without any results..
Thanks
Reed

says you need this tuner: http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbtcsp ... I=158XTXM1
plus an antenna.
Tuner is no longer in production - retailed for about $215- And to add insult to injury - the XM universal tuner does not have a compatible adapter for that CDX-MP40.
here is a used one on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW
here is another

Even all of the liquidators like etronics.com or ikesound.com seem to be out of this unit -- I think it's just simply been phased out, Esp with a $215 inital buy in, cause now you can buy a XM headunit for $140, and pay $100 for the tuner that works with it. (bonus is that many of these newer headunits can work with either a XM or Sirius tuner module.)
Your best bet might be to see if you can sell that headunit for $100-150, and tyr to get into something that redily has the adapter available for it. Even the universal XM tuner for $50 needs another $50 adapter to make it work with whatever headunit you have.
Or you could go with an external unit like many of us have - I'm using the Roady2 with decent results - $95 at walmart -unfortunately that CDX-MP40 she has doesn't have an AUX input, that requres you to have to use the wireless FM-modulator - and wont give you the best sound possible, but it's bearable if you keep your antenna closer to the front of the truck.
You can update the Roady or SkyFi2 with Delphi Adapter SA10112 - it plugs into your factory antenna cable and the headunit - like a non wireless FM modulator - and again I think it is being discontinued, or else it was out of stock even at Delphi's XM store a couple of months ago when I last looked for one -- I plan on ordering me one very soon - $24 at crutchfield - $16 at Dogbytecomputer.com

Thanks for all the help
I appreciate the time and effort it took to answer my questions. A 15 month old unit and already obsolete.
Once again, my former supervisor's words to me one day still prove true, "Reed, if you had a pet duck, it would drown"

I'll let you know how the Delphi in-line adapter works as soon as I get the wife to give me the OK to order it
Plus one cool thing about the Raody2 is that it has it's FM modulator built in - so if you just put an XM antenna on your vehicle, you could easily move the tuner between both vehicles for roadtrips and such.

I bought the Alpine CDA-9820XM, price range is around 300.00. All you need is an Antenna, which they make a little aprox 1" square one now. ...Check it out
