6 disc cd player upgrade?
Just wanted to say you guys are running a great forum here and I look forward to doing some of the mods to my Crew Cab that you guys have been doing to yours....but now to my question...
My 2003 crew cab came with the single CD and tape deck radio, and I'd like to upgrade to the optional 6 disc. I see several 6disc CD changers on ebay, but dont really want to buy one unless i know it'll fit my truck.
I did some reasearch, and the GM part number i found for my truck was #15074589...found it at radios and more. Would other 6 disc changers from say a fullsize truck fit my application? Or, would i be better off buying an aftermarket deck?
Once again, awesome site...and thanks for any help!

Personally, if I were adding a changer and keeping my stock deck, I would go the OEM route, or get an aftermarket changer and an adapter to use stock controls. I've never cared much for RF changers. Several companies make input adapters to use an aftermarket changer with a stock radio. I think soundoffaudio.com still carries the GM ones.

To clarify my question, I would like to replace my stock deck with a used OEM GM 6 disc in-dash CD changer , and was wondering if i could use a used one out of a fullsize pickup, etc. or if i could only use the one matching that part # in my previous post.

the radios should swap provided they are from the same year. if you have RDS on your current radio, the replacement needs RDS. i think that started in 2002....not for sure. i saw somewhere that pre2002 radios will not work on 2002 and later vehicles due to the RDS and security!!!

Very worthwhile upgrade! I replaced the stock single disc player in my 2002 S-10 with a 6-disc from a 2003 ZR2. Plug and play.

Did you buy your radio used or new? I think if you buy a used one you have to have the theftlock unlocked by the dealer, and i dont know how much of a pain that is... ....Or did you buy a new one that wasnt locked?

The radio was removed from a 03 ZR2 about a week after purchase. I did have to have the dealer reset the code. Took them about 2 minutes to do it.

nice... Well, I just bought a GM 6disc off of eBay that was the same part # that goes in 2003 S10s, so I'll be waiting for the UPS truck to get here now. I hope my dealer can reset the one I just bought it for a reasonable price.
Also, while i've got the dash apart, should I upgrade from the stock amplifier? I'm planning on putting a 6.5" bazooka (powered sub) behind the back seat, and i'm wondering if an aftermarket amp would improve the sound all that much. The setup as I have it now gives off kind of a resonance at around 150-300hz, that makes it sound kind of boomy. I've already replaced the front door speakers with pioneer 6.5"s and that helped, so I may end up dynomatting the doors.
