You will need a battery isolator so that it will receive a charge independently from the main battery.

Check out Hellroaring Technologies. They seem to be the best.

Just curious, by "system" do you mean for your stereo?

haha almost to complicated to explain but here it goes anyway
-2, 15'' kicker L7's
-2, 12'' alpine type x's
all alpine components so im gonna need more than just a capacitor all this will be mounted in a fiberglass box and will surround a custom seat hidden in the center of the box which will open for use and close back down for astetics picture kind of a lazy boy onle the arms will be about a 3000 watt killer system lots of cash even more man hours by yours truely but fabrication is what i do so it will be fun i may even mass produce them for ppl that can live with a single rear seat

Sounds fun!! 3000 Watts is a lot of power. I have about 1000 watts added to my truck... it's more than enough for me!

You're right when you say just a capacitor won't help with your problem. However, in many cases adding another battery doesn't help much either.

By putting in another battery you are adding another component to the electrial system that your alternator has to keep charged and supply power to, thus putting even more strain on your electrical system. To truly fix the problem I would recommend a high-out put alternator (one that supplies more amperage). I'm not sure if there is a direct replacement for the S10's. Otherwise, you can have you stock alternator professionally rewound to produce more amperage.

The extra battery is helpful at times when you are running the stereo with the vehicle off or at idle (when the alternator isn't at its peak output level).

yeah i agree the high amp alt was in the works im thinking 135 or 125 not sure dont have it in from of me but i know that they may them for the s10 for sure i mean look at all the slammed trucks i usually go to those boys for the sterio info they seem to have a great handle on those things but as far as this went i mean daylighters, and kc's and the sterio and a winch to come after the custom prerunner i know im gonna need some extra electrical capacity

ZR2.com "was" working on a "group buy" for a high output alternator. You may wanna check there as well as the slamming crowd :D

You can also get by with a 'switch' on it. Thats how the RV dealer connected my wiring for the past two fullsize trucks..
Basically its a constant-duty cycle solenoid that looks alot like a starter solinoid.. You wite it between the trucks charging/battery system, and the aux battery, and its triggered to close the circuit by an ignition-controlled line.. On my 1-ton they went by the coil power to the 454..
It isnt as fancy as an active isolator as far as proportional charging, but it charges both batteries just fine. I was concerned about the setup when they did the first truck, looked a little Mikey Nouse to me so I took the truck to a battery shop and they said "no, thats the same way they would have hooked it up"..
Most RV dealers probably have the solenoid.. It was $15 for the one on my 1-ton.

Dont think I'd try it on a single.. You might look into a high output alternator also! :!:
