First Major Problem...

Post by rider »

Well, my first major issue has come up with my '03 crew cab. Within the past week or two, I have heard a clunk in the front when streering/turning. And yesterday with the massive snow storm, I heard the clunk while just driving slow (40 & below). This noise is apparent while in 2&4wd and getting worse as time goes on. Any advice on where to start looking?

Thanks,

How many miles? Does it make the noise over bumps and when you turn? I have 75k on my 2002 and I had toreplace both of the front lower ball joints. I also had to replace the rear shocks after one of them left a puddle of oil under the truck.

I'm at 48k miles. The noise started while doing slow sharp turns in parking lots, but now happen when turning left or right and while driving over medium sized cracks/bumps/potholes in the road at any speed. Tonight while driving 60mph I could here a clunk every so often, and even more while driving the streets in town at slower speeds. It's been too cold (and too much snow!) to crawl under the truck and see what's going on, but as soon as it warms up a couple degrees... I'll be under there grabbing everything in sight to see if it's loose. I'm just looking for a heads up as to where to start.

Thanks,

J

Could you explain more about the foot clunk? And by "torsion bar x-member hitting", do you mean these two are hitting each other... or is "torsion bar x-member" one piece that is hitting some thing else?

Thanks

Follow the links. I think they explain themselves pretty well. At least give you some areas to check.

No problem

The Search function here works pretty well.
I just searched the stock crew cab forum for , thump, and clunk to come up with those.
Yours might be close to one someone else has found in a thread already.
