I guess I prefer functional modifications but, I have a goodmark hood is still on my list of mods.

I'm sure the grill is there for a reason. This "filler" would block air from over the hood but the way it attaches it seems plenty of air would get around it, including the ends where the air would come in at the fenders. I also thought cutting some cool slots with grills would work if it doesn't breath well enough.
My gripe with the S-10's is the short looking front, this would make the hood look longer & the windshield look smaller. link

The cowl hood lets quite a bit of heat out of the engine compartment. With the cowl being open, heat is introduced to the interior when the HVAC control is in the vent position.
This cowl would be very nice to eliminate that.
