Am too lazy to do a search but, someone here had a similar problem.
Unhook the battery and try again in 1/2 hour
Hope it works

Here's the topic. It's worth trying. I hope it works for you.nascarnutz wrote:mine did the same thing a few days ago now it doesnt work at all. disconnect the battery with the ignition switch on or off? by the way i am a newbie, just found this site yesterday. very cool!!!!!! been on here for a few hours already checking out everything. lots of info. thanks
I was sitting on an incline on a rainy day recently trying to make a left turn onto a busy street. I normally put mine in 4 HI to get a little traction in wet weather to make a turn when traffic is heavy. Mine just clicked and the 4 HI light blinked but, never engaged.......... . Might have been an incline like the boat ramp that Jeff had problems with in the topic I linked you to.
Anyway, I tried 4 HI a few moments later when I was moving and it worked.
He didn't mention if ignition was on or off but, since he unhooked his battery while changing antifreeze I assume it was off.
BTW..........Welcome to the site

I know somewhere on this site is a much more detailed discussion involving Quickbiker's CC on how to diagnose and fix the mess. It goes into how to pull codes using the 4wd lights and everything. Unfortunately, when it comes to internet searches, I couldn't find my way out of the proverbial phone booth! I'm hoping HJ jumps in here with the link.

Re: another 4x4 issue
I see you have already fixed the problem, but just in case it helps anyone I had this same problem once and the dealer replaced the encoder motor and it has worked fine ever since.ZIGGY K wrote:crew will not go into 4 wheel when pressing switch; don't even here the switch click. if i put the truck in nuetral and hit 4 high the lights switch back and forth between 4 high and 4 low about 4 times before going back into 2 hi. it worked a couplle of days ago. any ideas ????????? I'm sure glad that disconnecting the battery cable to reset worked
