Not that you can say much about driveshafts, since both your front and rear broke.
Speaking of driveshafts I just ordered mine from Tom wood's.
Ya we were just bored, we were trying to take pics of our cars and my friends firebird that he just got that night, even though they didn't come out.
But we got bored and decided to have a little tug 0 war. In the second vid he put it in 4wd and didnt tell me so I got owned in that one b/c I dont have a front driveshaft yet.

ok, Ive had a question for a while but always forget to bring it up, this reminded me of it, so here goes, my brother got his jeep stuck the first time i took my truck in the mud, i of course had the add insult to injury by being the one to pull him out (little brother, non name brand truck) anyways, i decided to pull him out in reverse, i perfer that for some reason, i guess so i can see the chain or rope better, and see how the in tow vehicle is moving or not moving, anyhow, 4lo right of the bat, the jeep almost jumped out of the hole and landed in my bed, so i commented on how "oh that was to easy, maybe i need to put it in two wheel drive" this was followed by lots of laughing and jeering(all this is on camera too, big plus) so i put it in two wheel drive, back in to reverse, hit the gas, and nothing happens, the chain goes tight(tight like a tiger) but thats it, the wheels don't spin, it doesn't budge, so i decide maybe i overstepped my boundries, so we'll try 4hi, same thing, chain pulls tight, and nothing, back into 4lo, and it pulls right out, no problem, never even slips a wheel, why did it do that, shouldn't it have at least made an attempt to pull it in 2 or 4hi, maybe kick the tires throw some dirt, especially in 2wd, no weight on the back, the front can't move, in reverse, the back wheels should have spun like crazy, but it was like the truck wouldnt even rev up, so my question is, WHY

Mine does that too. Like 1 day after I got my car I drove around this downhill slope and had to back up to get around a tree, so I put it in reverse and floored it, it went up to about 2000 rpm and didn't do anything else. I ended up putting it in 4lo to back up a small mound .
To answer your question, your's isn't the only one that does that and I have no idea why they do it but oh well..... I think it may be some kind of rev limiter when the wheels arent spinning it wont rev up any higer to prevent breakage or something.

i had a 78 camaro w/305,a 87 S-10 2dr blazer w/HO350, and had hopefully will get back when i get home, a 79 4x4 Ford Bronco w/351 cleveland modified, i knew exactly how hard i could push them and not break them, it is smart but i hate the fact that my 04 CC w/283 tells me "ok i don't think i can do that" you are a motor, not a woman, you do as i say sorry

Well, in 2wd, reverse is geared so high, that it probably won't have any power to pull or even spin. In 4lo, you are geared down low, so no problems. I always tow a heavy load out of a being stuck in 4low, hi is just not the right gears, IMO.Maximous wrote:this just occured to me, has anyone with the hypertech had this problem

Did the front axle disengage between attempts? Maybe not? That might account for not slipping a wheelMaximous wrote:...i decided to pull him out in reverse, ..., 4lo right of the bat, ... so i put it in two wheel drive, back in to reverse, hit the gas, and nothing happens,... the wheels don't spin, ... try 4hi, same thing, ...back into 4lo, ...never even slips a wheel,... shouldn't it have at least made an attempt to pull it in 2 or 4hi,...the back wheels should have spun like crazy...
I don't know how the PCM's torque management is applied in reverse, so I'm not sure if that is a factor here.
You need to be careful and gear down when using reverse for a hard pull. The ring and pinions are not designed for hard loads in reverse. They are sloped/tapered for strength in forward operation.

On a hard pull it is best.Maximous wrote:so basically just pull in the forward direction
Better yet ...use a winch like quickbiker installed and lock all your brakes. That way there is no pressure on the ring and pinion or driveshaft , or transfercase, or transmission, or engine
