Goodyear Wrangler AT/D2

Post by adrenalnjunky »

Anyone have these, or heard anything about them?

The local SAMS club has them in their tire department, the AT/D wasn't a super aggressive looking tire - it had a more rolled shoulder block for highway driving, but the newer D2 has a more squared off shoulder, with some staggered blocks , more like the Dueler AT or the BFG AT.

I've personally never been a fan of goodyear tires I have owned, but the club price for everything is like $438 for 4 31"'s installed, before tax.

The model doesn't show up on goodyear's website, which is another strike against the tire. Many times I know a major manufacturer will build a "special" tire for a retailer that has the brand name on it, but you will never find that model at that tire manufacturer's store, just that the special retialer's location. Good example is the Goodyear Tracker that you can buy at WalMart - the tire is actually produced in a Kelly/Springfield (owned by Goodyear) plant and has the goodyear brand name on it to make people more comfortable buying it. Goodyear stores across the country will not honor the warranty on this model tire as it is a "Special" model that has to be handled by WalMart.

Sears is terrible about this too--but with Sears' huge buying power they can even get the tire manufacturer to produce a tire that has the same model name as the model in the Manufacturer's same lineup - but maybe with different speed ratings, or a slightly different tread pattern, or even from a harder compound to make treadwear last longer.

Ok-- off the soapbox now

So anyone heard of the AT/D2?

Nope!!! Never heard of them.

But I can't wait to trash the stock GoodYear RT/S tires on the truck and the stock GSA on the Mrs. car.
When I first got the truck the tires were great and always provided good traction. After about 20K miles, they are slippery as hell. Lots of tread left too. They will be replaced within the year with some 30" Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's. The GSA's that came on our Grand Prix just plain suck.... Haven't decided on a replacement for these yet.

Yeah -- I had Eagle RS/A's that came on my Z24 - 205/55/16 - I wore them out in 19K miles

Now I was enjoying driving that car hard, but that's still a terrible treadwear.

I think I'm going to just save my $$$ and get the BFG's or Revos.

Does it look anything like this?

I've run these, but was less than pleased overall.
Treadwear was ok to poor, didn't hold up well in the rocks (chipping tread blocks) balled up in mud real bad.

It did however handle weight well, cornering was firm, and wet traction was good.

Nah -- nothing like the aTS. I can't find a pic of them anywhere -- wish I had a Cameraphone when I was at the store the other day.

they are more of a big flat block. Like a wannabe BFG AT KO, but at the same time, different. Possibly more like your Geolandars.

OK I'm a moron  ... I don't know why I thought my wife's car had GSA's. They are Eagle LS, and they still suck!

I had those on my Blazer. Never drove it enough to form an opinion. Since they will never go back on it, I can't quite figure out what to do with them. I might put them on my crew just for something to drive on the street since my stock Goodyear RT/S's are just about dead and the Cooper's I bought for the crew last year make so much noise I got sick of running them all year. I'll save those for winter.
