ok, why does my 4wd keep braking, is the system a crappy design or something wrogn with it, iv had it in the shop 4 differnt times.
when i put it in Nutral like normal, press 4lo and then shift back in drive i can hear it engage then feel the truck jump slightly when i put it in gear. but the front wheels arent geting any power.
the last time it was in the shop for the same problem, they seaid it was the cable on the transfer case. they said it was not engaging all the way. do the cables get loose or just break a lot, it just doent seem right.
has anyone had similar problem, cause im thing about getting a truck with a more reliable 4wd sysem, which is unfortunate because i realy like my cc
ive also had vacume leak problems sience iv hade the truck, and it seems evey time i have one the 4wd becomes inop, why cant it just work. oh well im gonna go yell at somone in the dealer monday for telling me it was working. i almost got stuck today cause i thought it was actually working.
go figure. sorry for blabing, ill shut up now.

mine only would not engage once when it was really cold in late 02. Since then, I try to use 4wd once a month just to keep everything lubed up. This winter, I had no issues at all and it was much colder than last winter. I think if you just engage the 4wd once a month, it keeps everything lubed up and working well.
My mom's 02 Suzuki 4wd stopped working maybe like yours did. She rarely used it over the two years she's owned it. it appears when she tried using it, it only halfway engaged and stripped something in the front axle. The Dealer had to replaced alot of parts in front under warranty. My feeling is that since she did not engage it like I did, it was not lubed up and did not engage correctly and stripped the gears.
BTW, on the other vacuum issue(AC controls that is), first year it was stuck on certain positions but this year since I used it more, it has not got stuck yet. So it appears use it or it will break.
I had a third car(mazda) and since it was rarely used, I swear it needed more maintance than my daily driver. I've heard Landrovers are the same way with the engine. Lightly used engines had greated buildup than heavly used engines so it was actually better to find one that was used regularly and not a sunday driver.
BTW I use my AC year round now as I've heard them breaking when not used much. It happened to my sister and her compressor siezed up over the winter. Again use it to lube it up.
So back to the Crew, I did have those issues with my Crew but since I've given it time, everything is working great. I'm thinking it just needed time to "breakin".
Good Luck,
Con

Re: more 4wd poblems
You do understand that the front axle is engaged using vacuum , right?jeremy wrote:...ive also had vacume leak problems sience iv hade the truck, and it seems evey time i have one the 4wd becomes inop, why cant it just work. ...
Your two problems may be closely related.
If you get totally frustrated look for the cable to replace the vacuum actuator for the front axle. Posi-lock or something like that.
I'd say find the vacuum leak, fix it and it should solve the engagement problem.

ya, its a common problem with s-10's not to engage but its not a problem that is worth gettin rid of the cc for. its an easy fix usually. the actuators have to engage...if your vacum isnt working right then theres your problem. shouldnt be a big deal

yeah, i understand that the vacuum is related to the 4wd system, the dealer actually just replaced the control unit cause it had a leak
i've just had the vacuum brake 3 times in different places, the fwd switch broke, allowing trany fluid to leak it the diaframs, i had my truck in there 6 differnt times wile this so called five star dealer ship tried to fix my problems,
anyway i just dont want my vacume to keep leaking, and my 4wd to keep breaking, my vacume is supposedly fixed right now so the only thing i can think of breaking is the cable on the transfer case.
