How do you have your tool box set up?
I have one drawer that has 1/2 inch foam wiht the shape of my tools cut out of it.. then all my other drawers are just filled with crap.. I keep Losing sockets and stuff. I was wondering.. what would be better? more foam drawers or the stick with the little slider things where you can put like 10 sockets on.. and has anyone used the platic trays that are pre fabbed for the drawer ( THE ONES WITH HOLES FOR THE SOCKETS.).. I think they look cheesy but do they work... EVERY ONE POST YOUR BEST TOOL SET UP..

I have two craftsman tool chests about 5' high (4 seperate). The two upper tool chests are foamed. Left is cut out for screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers etc. Right top chest is strickly sockets ..1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4". I also have a small 101 piece tool set that I use more often. Bottom chests are for larger stuff..Impact wrenchs, etc. The foam stuff works great but can get costly and time consuming. Some companies offer the pads allready cut out with the tools.

that foam does get pretty costly I priced out my box and it was something like 200 dollars.. I can fortunatly get foam (snap- on ) free.. at work we use it to cut foam for our boxes.. and since the drawers are much larger we have small squares left over that are perfect for my craftsman box.. I have a 16 or 17 drawer chest here at home. It is to expensive to ship to others but I might be able to hook up Brule if he needs foam since he lives so close to me.. so brule let me know if you need any? and what size.. I can only get blue, sometimes yellow and very rare red. I havent been to work here in a while but I can scrounge some within the month..
any one else have tool box..

I have Craftsman boxes at work, and a cheap no-name box at home that I'd love to foam.
I use the steel socket organizers , and made some wooden organizers for wrenches at work.
Years ago I bought a 80 piece Craftsman set that comes in the ABS box, the rest is in small boxes, rack organizers, or thrown in drawers.
Maybe some day I'll come across a REALLY good buy on a box for home
P.S. Lets see some pictures of what organization is all about! I'd like to see what a "foamed" box looks like.

I think you need to post them in the S-10CREWCAB.com Gallery, I can't view the images , and yahoo won't allow them to be linked anymore!2bunik wrote:...

hmmm.. I see the pics come up fine. Maybe cause I have an Yahoo account so maybe it sees my cookie already and displays the pic for me.
Anyway, my craftsman rolling tool box is a mess but it is sort of separated some. Screwdrivers in one slim drawer, wrenches in another, sockets in another, and small air tools in another. the rest have all sort of junk in them from moped/scooter parts from a moped I'm helping someone rebuild, hand guards for my dual sport that needs to be modified to be installed, assorted power tool cases in the bigger bottom cab(but with not power tools in them).
Most of the tools are craftsman but there is a whole bunch of other brands in there as well. I have a small job site style tool box as well but that use to hold my car stereo install stuff like wires and stuff but I don't do much of that anymore.

Honestly It is a sad operation.. You first decide what tools you want in what drawer. then you lay them on the foam the way you want them set up.. .. you then trace them out with a bic pen or something.. then you remove the tools and cut out all the tools you just traced.. I found for sockets It is best using a dremel with the swirly bit (looks kinda like a drill bit but is used to drill and cut.. or the sandind (cylinder looking bit). If you dont have any oth thesse tools then the good old razor blade works fine.. It takes approx. 45 minutes to do one drawer nicely. the neater it is cut ! the longer it lasts. it you really want to get fancy you can cut a finger notches next to the tools for easier tool removal.. I have done many of foam cut outs at work. I hate doing them.. But when its for my tools I really dont mind.. and when you can open a drawer and its all neat...ooooooooooohhhh yeah.. really nice.. for big tools like an orbital sander.. you can place the item on its side or on the sanding disk face. to trace.. I think sockets are best cut standing upright. but if you have little drawers then you will have to lay them down...HenryJ wrote:Ok , saw it So how do you cut the foam to fit the item stored?2bunik wrote:...its under misc. pictures.. yep, all wrenches and scredrivers and misc elec stuff in a 20" portable tool box, and my socket set is in it's own plastic carrier that it came with. the toolbox part is annoying, but not having a garage, it's all I've got.
