hobie's formula build up
okay so i made this page so that i can keep everyone up to speed on the project. i do little things everyday, and i will take more pics once more significant things happen. but most importantly, i am building a rig from scratch, and i want this to be example of how much this sport really cost from the ground up. so i keep a running total on the bottom of the page. but that doesnt include about 4k in tools that you also need. today was fun, i cleaned my front axel and painted it black. she's going to be perty in a couple of months. i am still deciding on color scheme. any suggestions?
formula build up page
this friday i am building the front cross member. i will post pics when i am done. sat i am giong to finish up my arb install

so i think i came up with a paint scheme. paint the frame, axels, tube all black. then the body royal blue. since my suit seat and harness are all royal blue. then trim out in yellow. like the inside of the wheel blue, but the beadlock in yellow. my wife is going to do that for me sunday.

thats how you put 38's on tox axels. sure if i had dana60's i would but some 38x15" wire tire on...but then again, i would rather have height, so i would probably put on 42x14 on instead.
it saves weight. the truck is light so it can handle it, its easy on the steering and birfields, and its helps with turning radius over wider tires

Are you talking about VHT? Like they use at dragstrips? Wouldn't that just pick up dust?a2b wrote:ya, speaking of tires....HenryJ wrote:Tire image

I had not tried that for the rocks.AZS10Crew wrote:Are you talking about VHT? Like they use at dragstrips? Wouldn't that just pick up dust?
VHT is primarily used on the track surface to soften the laid down rubber, and is extremely sensitive so caution would be advised for applying it directly to your tires.
There used to be a good softener around called "Moose Juice" , you apply it with a brush or roller to revive an old pair of slicks , or drop them a compound or two. I'll try to find a source.
In the mean time Speedwaymotors has some treatments-
Hot Lap Tire
Treatment System
Hot Lap II
LMT Tire treatment
A quick search found -
Track Claw
VP Racing has Grizzly Grip and Goat Piss (Kent Acrysol), Grape Grip ( Gold tire grip )
Pro-blend sells # 5060 - Rock Crawl Tire Treatment (Mfr. by Hotlap?)
What about siping? Does it help in the rocks?

ya it does help. i just havent ever done it before. i guess i ough to learn.
my tires are famous for lasting, not griping. i figure i could try to run some of that stuff that the dirt track guys use, it might help. any thing to soften the compound up.

Are you friendly with any of the local tire shops? I'd see if the do tire siping and what they would charge.a2b wrote:ya it does help....
Seems like my neighbor said it was about $100 a set around here to have it done. But that included trimming to true them for out of round too.

ya no luck on the siping yet. i had a place pop the inner bead on for me. but even that was sketchy. everybody is sooo afraid to touch beadlocks. sad news: one is leaking
but i did get them all on and mounted and aired up without too much hassle. just alot of time. 32 bolts each wheel
see mark, they dont look too skinny now.
BTW my stupid new dog wouldnt get out of the way or at least pose for the camera
also, i got 220 hooked up at the house now. so i ordered a millermatic 175

Definitely not Booty Fab like the 1st attempt.
Looks good. Might want to get rid of that big ugly thing holding up the steering wheel in the first pic though.
