NO 4WD

Post by zr5man »

Electronic 4WD would not engage while stuck in snowbank......lights on dash buttons work....TCCM box clicks as usual under dash......I have a 2002 with 53k miles......is this common ?.......I have read in other forums about the 4WD "brain" getting locked-up and clearing the codes by pulling a fuse will fix the problem.....have any of you experienced this......thanks

Yeah were you able to spin the tires at all?

On my truck 4 lo won't engage unless I'm rolling at 1-2mph in Neutral.

4hi will usually engage at any speed, or stopped, but every once in a while it has refused to engage while sitting still, I'm assuming there might have been a bind on the transfercase.

My truck has 28k miles and I've had problems a couple of times with the actuator. When I first got the truck it wouldn't go into 4HI, only 4LO. The dealer replaced the electric actuator and adjusted the cable. Recently while doing some serious muddin I couldn't get out of 4LO after several tries. It eventually worked about a hour later, so now I'm definitely going to do the Posi-lock conversion before I go wheelin again.

The 4WD doesn't work at all....hi or lo....the dash buttons look/flash normal.....the TCCM clicks on normal but front wheels won't spin...
where is the under dash connector used to view the diagnostic trouble codes and how do you use it....if it is something simple to replace I'd rather do that before taking it to the Chevy dealer...thanks for yourhelp...

its the actuator. there are 2. one for the tcase and one for the front diff. they always seem to fail when you need them the most.

did you put it in neutral before switching to 4-lo?

The 4HI and 4LO both crapped out at the same...my wife had to pull me out of the snowbank...what tests can I do to determine if it is the t-case acuator or the front diff acuator ?..that is why I was asking about the trouble codes....I have read on other sites that the encoder motor is the most common failure....how does it relate to the acuators ?.... my truck is 1 1/2 years old and I rarely us the 4WD...how can any of these parts go bad already......thanks again......

You got pulled out by a girl?

I think that's a violation of this site's membership bylaws. And, if it isn't, it should be. Grounds for bannishment in my opinion.

I have heard these things like to crap out from lack of use.
I try at least once a week to drive mine for about a mile or so in 4HI. Only do this on a section of road with no turns if the pavement is dry or even just wet from rain. It seems to keep everything lubed and working properly. It has never let me down when I really needed it (Snow).

This is one of the many things I like about my '87 Blazer. No computer crap for the 4wd. Just a nice lever on the floor. My 4wd always works. Now if I can just do something about the blown up motor.....

Yeah, I blew mine up in traffic last fall. Eventually, I'm doing the V8 swap too but it's going to have to wait for a while.
