fan shroud

Post by Nate »

I finished up my BL saturday around 4pm yet i could not get the fan shroud to bolt back up. Right now i took the bottom off but its definetly not what i wanted to do or plan on leaving it like that.

Do the spacers with the kit work? or do you have to do alittle fabrication?

Mine worked fine -- except that one of my spacer tubes was a half inch shorter than the other 3--I happend to have a bug nut in the toolbox that was exactly 1/2 inch thick, and it was big enough diameter that the kit bolt would slide through it.

The only thing I remember is that it required skinny arms to get it bolted back together with the spacers. :D

Yeah I have the skinny arms, and I seem to remember a fair amount of cursing, and possibly a thrown tool or 2.

I remember that too...but mostly when removing the brake line bracket from the oil pan. I'd like to personally thank the GM engineer who thought it a good idea to put a standard AND a metric nut on the same bracket bolt by kicking him square in the nuts! :x

Yeah lines on the oil pans were a pain in the ass, i just got it loose enough to pop the lines out, then tightned the bracket back on there.

I guess im just gonna have to play around with the fan shroud, All i use is the supplied bolts, and spacers right? and the bottom of the fan shroud remains in the stock location?

in the instructions it says use the "lower fan shroud bracket". What does this look like? is it the bracket that looks like a "Z"

I thought those were transmission cooler lines? Running up the passenger side of the tranny?

Either way -- I know the bracket you are talking about--took some ingenuity to get it all back in--I was only able to get 1 of the 2 lines back into the clamp.

Yes the Z shaped thing was used to anchor the bottom of the shroud to the lower portion of the radiator core support. I had to *engineer* mine a little cause I managed to break off the little section that the factory snaps were that the bracket was supposed to slide up into.

gotta love the dremeltool.

so what do you do? The bottom shroud has 3 plastic clips. I know the Z bracket goes into the middle one now, but what do you do with the other 2? Leave them clipped in or take them out of where they clip into?

TAKE THE BOTTOM FAN SHROUD OFF...if i remember correctly...it has to come off for the spacers to fit inside the gap...then it will bolt up to the top shroud...then i forget what happend after that
