Stupid question about add a leaf

Here goes.. can anyone explain how by adding a leaf you get more height if the rearend is above the spings. Would this not lower the truck? Did i miss something here? thanks

The added spring/springs take some of the load , therefore retaining more arch.

The springs have an arch , as you apply weight they "flatten" (de-arch) , by adding leaf/leafs you distribute the weight to this/these springs which resists the "flattening".
