Tire and Wheel Questions
Ok, If I were to install a 16" wheel with 5.5" of back spacing with a 235x85x16 tire, Do you think it will rub with the 2" BL and TB crank? The 235x85x16 is 31.7" X 9.3". The only reason that I ask is because my tire dealer does not stock this tire and if I order it I'm stuck. The tire is the BFG AT, so I assume it will be pretty close to full size. So what do you guys think?

That is nearly a 32" tire and most of the rubbing happens with a true 31" tire , even on stock rims.

Yeah...those will rub for sure. Maybe not on the fender lip, but definitely on the frame and wheel well when turning and/or hitting a bump.

i feel it's my turn to say.....yep
that 16 wheel over your stock will add an inch right there, putting you at a 30"tire. but then im not sure about that 85 wide.

The wheel size has nothing to do with the OD of tire. AZS10Crew said that he did not rub with 30" tires on his truck before he lifted it. Therefore, I can assume that after adding aprox. 2 1/2" to 3" of lift that increasing the dia. of the tire 1.7 " would be ok. You would then divide that in half which would mean that you were closing the gap between the fender and the tire by .85 inches. So I do not think the fender will be a problem. Right now with the 30X9.5 at full lock the tire is .6" away from the frame. Add in changing the backspacing by 1/2" and subtracting for the differance in width of the tire and it is .... Close......Warnoffroad wrote:i feel it's my turn to say.....yep

However...my 30's did rub on the wheel well when turning and flexing...after I got the new wheels that were 1.5" further out that is. With your extra .8" of diameter combined with the extra .5" of width on each side, you'll probably rub the wheel well when turning and hitting a bump. But...it's nothing that some sheet metal shears and a BFH won't fix.

I learned along time ago that the BFH was the best tool in the box! It is the only tool you will ever own that is fully adjustable and will make just about anything see things your way!

85 is not the width,,,,235 isWarnoffroad wrote:i feel it's my turn to say.....yep

85 means its 85% as tall as it is wide etc etc..
ie: 235/50 is short where 235/75 is taller etc
i am sure you know, but just in case you dont...you can use the calculator from here
http://www.s-10crewcab.com/og1/modinfo/ ... cabcontact
this will tell you that the tire is 31.7" tall. and we all know 31's rub

Yes, 31's rub. But, is it because of the height or the width? The width is 10.5" on a 31" tire, and this is the major factor concerning the tire commng into contact with the frame. The tire I was talking about is only 9.3 inches wide which is narrower than a 30" tire. Which means you will have less bulge from the wheel as well. I just think it would be close. I had hoped that someone else might have tried it.

I know that like a BFG AT 30x9.50 is actually 29.9 inches tall but has a tread width of 7.6 inches, a 31x10.50 has a 8.2 inch tread width - a 32x11.50 has a 9.2 inch width , so those may help you in this quest.
