Best way to fix "road rash" on doors

Post by Blaze One »

So on my blazer i have area's on the bottom corner edges of the doors , where the paint has been slowly "sand blasted" off due to driving on gravel roads and just general driving .
I would like to Spray some bedliner on the area in the future ,(if anyone has pics of a BLACK s10 with sprayon bedliner that would be nice to see too ) Since i have never seen a black s10 with bedliner on the rockers it looks like it would be ugly at least in my mind . Any thoughts ?
But what can I do to keep the bare metal from rusting right now ?

ooops sorry about the pic size .
Anyway , that blue truck looks good , I was just worried because when you put bedliner on a contrasting color Ie: grey , white , red . it looks great . But if i put it on a black truck , it will look too much like I ma trying to make it match , which i am not .

Pink would be cute!

No. I'm with Mark. The Light or dark grey would look pretty good IMHO.

What about touching it up as best you can and covering it with some of the clear 3M protective film?

I think light or medium grey would work. It would kinda look like the gun metal color.

Well , i think i will just touch it up with some touch up paint for now , I want to test or atleast see what light grey/med.grey bedliner looks like on a rocker before i go full force and start spraying paint ,

I would do nothin but i am begning to see surface rust ! very very light though .

Wow, I had some bare metal spots for a couple years and never even saw any surface rust. I think the body's are awsome. I did get tired of seeing one spot and I masked it and spray it with a can over the summer. Another spot I pulled the inside of the door out and popped it out with a rubber mellet. For the most part though, i leave it. I was amazed at what a can did though.

When you get it touched up. Cover the area with protective film-
3M wrote:. This film was developed by 3M's Aerospace division for the leading edge of helicopter rotor blades to protect against the corrosive element of sand and dust at ultra high speeds. Your auto will never match the speeds of helicopter blades, but is in constant assault of road debris and small rocks and sand at speeds of 150 mph.For more information click here>>

i've thought about doing the same thing, only my truck is green.... black and green? i guess it would be similar to the blue one... they aren't scratches, they're scars, each with a different story to tell :D that's what i say anyway

for the black truck, i'd prolly just try to cover it and seal it w/ the 3m stuff. i know a guy who sells it and he says it works great, i didn't meet him until after my truck had lots of scratches or i would have had it done.
