GM Repurchased my 02 Crew!

Post by Socaldave »

Well the ordeal is over. After way to many days in the shop for numerous repairs I filed for arbitration with the BBB and won. GM did not show up at the hearing and the arbitrator was very generous with me. He went back to the first significant repair that would have qualified for the lemon law as it took 5 times to fix the problem. I had a heavy knock in the front end on slow speed turning maneuvers. After replacing ball joints, body mounts, sway bar bushings, lube the wheel stops (yeah right), telling me it was just frame flex (yeah right again), then finally torqued the control arm bolts and it was fixed. Since then I have had injector problems, the balance shaft rattle retro-fit kit (very loud on mine), multiple replacements of leaking shocks (some twice each), the cast aluminum oil pan leaked, a bearing growl/noise that still exists after replacing hub bearings twice, half shafts, and front diff. bearings, the whacky fuel gauge, and I could go on!

Long story short I had 38,000 miles on the truck and was only charged for 1,602 miles of usage, which was the mileage at the time of the first significant repair. (Even though it was fixed already) Basically I got all my money back except $270.00. Picked up the check today for $22,352.00 and left them the crew........... Woo Hoo! :D

I have looked at the 05 Colorado but I think it is underpowered and the seating is terrible. The seats are very flat and hard with very little contouring. Sit in one and you will agree. I have my eye on the new redesigned 05 Nissan Frontier. It is going to give the Tacoma some competition. I do like the new 05 Tacoma as well but the Nissan rides better, has a bit more power, and the seats are way more comfortable with manual adjustments for the lower seat height and tilt. Can you believe the Tacoma still has rear drum brakes? What to do....

I have to say that the ol S10 Crew Cab took me on many hunting adventures in the Mojave desert and local mountains. It took me everywhere I wanted to go. It had good power, was very plush inside , and rode pretty good. I just lost faith in the reliability and it had been torn into for some pretty significant repairs. I hope I have better luck with my future truck......

I will still be lurking on this site and I will let you all know what truck I end up purchasing.

Cheers,

I really like my S-10 Crew, but if I was to get another truck it would be a 2000 - 2004 Toyota Tacoma crew. My friend has one and I think it is a great truck. I had a 2000 ZR2 extra cab and had sort of a similar dishartening expirience. I kind of lost faith in Chevy and went to a dodge dakota crew. I loved the V-8 and room. I didn't like the gas milage, mainly because I couldn't keep my foot out of it. I took a leap and went back to a chevy. I have been fairly happy and have contributed all of my problems to it being used with 75k miles.

Sorry yours turned out to be a less that outstanding crew cab experience :D

Look hard at the Toyotas, but bear in mind that it may cost about $5k more than the others, for comparable equipment. It should be worth it in the long run though.

I'd pass on the "tinny" Datsun, er ...uhh...Nissan. I came real close to buying one myself. Probably would have if a light colored supercharged Frontier had been anywhere in the northwest at the time. (missed that bullet  )

Don't forget to calculate the higher costs of insurance for imports when you calculate the cost per mile on an annual basis.

HenryJ,
You need to go see and drive the all new 05 Nissan Frontier. Nothing at all like the old Frontier. It is much more solid and bigger. It is like a Titan but scaled down a bit. Fully loaded with theri NISMO package (like Toyotas TRD) it is right up there in cost with the all new Tacoma. About $27-28,000. NISMO is for "NISSAN MOTORSPORT" and has bigger BFG tires, different suspension, Bilstein shocks , etc. It does not have the Toyota reputation YET, but by the look of it Toyota is going to loose some sales.......

You are probably right my opinion was based on the older models, and things may have indeed changed.
If I were looking I'm sure that I would consider all the options :D

Just get the 4:10 axle option. I've been check'n out the Colorado, just curious mind you. I really like how the front is made. Looks like it be a breeze to make some sway bar disco's for it. It's clean in front. A few things I didn't like was some cross members hang low, ugh. But the rear diff looks beefy and so does the rest of it. I think it's something new that will catch on later. I like the truck myself. But still like my S10 more. I still think the S10 has the cleanest underside for off-roading. There's nothing else like it.
