Tailgate Cables

Post by jmb222 »

Long time visitor, first time poster. Thanks for all the free info.

Has anyone replaced a tailgate cable? I broke one recently and look at it quickly and it looks like the end that is attached to the tailgate looks like it is riveted to the bracket. Anyone else seen this?

Thanks

Welcome to the site.

I don't recall which end is which, but one of the ends should slide off. Its a slot over stud type attachment. I think the other end is held on with a torx (sp?) bolt.

I had to replace them on my '97 ZR2.

I didn't have a torcs (sp) socket and ran out and spent too much for a set of four craftsman ones. I still couldn't replace a simple cable.

Dealership purchased cables were amazingly high and I have seen them cheap on ebay.

I got irrated and just dropped the cables and tailgate off at a bady shop where they did it for me w/o charge.

Not much help, I know.

A common problem at County Fairs while people are watching truck pulls and demo derbys from thier tailgate.

Freinds don't let freinds crank torsion bars.

Or when Father-in-law gives wife 2 pallets of used bricks for landscaping and wife does not understand the concept of enough bricks are already on the truck and that they don't have to fill up the entire bed to be enough for one load.

This same concept applies to moving. Put items like books in a box from the grocery that paper towels were originally pack in
