Brittle 3rd Brake Light

I just had my 3rd brake bulb replaced for state inspection.. What a nightmare the lens mounting countersunk hole lip broke on both sides not to mention the gaskets fell apart as well. Has anyone else had this problem??

yup when putting mine back on the screws went all the way through the holes so I ordered a 3rd brake light cover

Did you replace the gasket?
Did the cover come with a longer screw?
Reg cab fits the crew correct?

the new 1 does come with longer screws
the reg.cab fits the crews but I havent recived it back yet had to return the wrong 1
and my gasket was ok

Mine "self destructed" when I went to take it out while I was installing antennas. The lens cracked, the gasket tore and even the light holder itself broke. I have it all glued together with a bunch of clear silicon until I can get a new one. Doesn't look pretty but it doesn't leak and it works.

Sylin concepts has both the lens in clear or smoke and a few different chrome or brushed covers.

Mine seems to have 'popped' all by itself..
When I was getting ready to put the shell on (night before I drove down to get it) we notived the brake light lens looked 'wrong'.. The screw on the drivers side had busted through the lens and it was only holding on with the other screw.. Went down and got a lens cover for it.. DIDNT fit.. (was supposedly a standard S10 one that they claimed at the store would fit.. they were wrong)..
Since I was putting the shell on anyway, just gave up on it.. went to Orchard Hardware, got a 1/4" longer screw.. Used the new screw and a rivet 'washer' and put the lens back on tight.. the one screw doesnt matchm but you cant see it with the shell mounted anyway

It is very hard to find a new "red" lense to replace the broken ones. Where can you get just a factory "red" one? I don't care for the clear or smoked ones. I am going to have to go the rout you guys did and just get a cover. I really like the bow-tie on it but, I have a Sonoma. I found one that says GMC but, it looks like a little much. I will have to keep looking and find a cool one I can put on it.

doughboy5499, if you only need the lense it is GM part # 16520296. GM Parts Direct has it for $7.18, and with shipping it would be $17.13, or you could try your local dealership and see what kind of price they could give you.

Yeah thanks I got one from gm parts direct already now. I just gotta remember what i did with the screws. I had used longer ones with a washer on them to hold it on when it broke. Thanks again.
