Dealer reprogramed PCM

Post by quickbiker »

The fuels gauge can be reprogramed to work better? :?:

I guess. My service writer photocopied the screen print from the PCM update and it says "new calibration for improved fuel gauge accuracy."

I wonder if I can get the dealer to reprogram my gauge? I found this, just a TSB though:

16. 03-08-49-003 MAR 03 Instruments - Inaccurate/Erratic Fuel Gauge Readings

Also, did you all see the campain? What up with dat?

And if they reprogram it, will it mess up my program with the HPPIII?

Let us all know if it's any better now.

Be sure to program HPPIII back to stock , efore you take it to the dealer. Just in case they decide to mess with your PCM programming. It (HPPIII programming) can also give the TechII erroneous readings that may read as a problem in programming requiring a re-flash.

PCM/HPPIII

Post by snowsurfer »

My crew 4 months old was throwing all kinds of abs, emer brake lites, shifting into neutral, took HPP III settings out and took truck to dealer...They still have it...

What does Re-Flashing do??? I've heard the term but not sure what it does???? I assume it resets the Computer????

Can it be done outside of the dealer???

Is reflash the same as reprogramming to stock like with the HPP III?

Yes, very similar though to a very limited extent.

GM's TechII is a diagnostic scanner that also has the capability to change some PCM (Powertrain Control Module) parameters.

Re-flash refers to the software provided by GM to be uploaded to the "writeable chip" in the PCM.

There is also a program called "LS1 edit" that can be used to re-write many of the functions, however it can also be used to really mess things up.

The TechII is primarilly a "dealer" tool , thought it would be possible to purchase one, if you really want one. Pretty penny sums it up alright, about $3500 when I was checking into it.

The electronics are both good and bad. It forces you to buy electronics , to diagnose electronics.

It is nice to be able to just plug it in and have the vehicle tell you what is wrong , or about to go bad. Saves some time trouble shooting.

I don't have a majority of OBDII rigs in the fleet yet, so don't really have a feel for just how helpful all this will be on an aging vehicle. I still think that good trouble shooting skills , and common sense will take you a long way.

I recently purchased a Harrison OBD scanner that hooks up to my laptop since I've had a few warning lites on my new 03' Crew. Actually I'm and old school guy I've owned a 83 S10 ext cab that I bought new 20 yrs ago, dropped a V8 305 and 700R4, dual exhaust, 4 X 4, that I used to drive to/from work daily. Much easier to trouble shoot and fix and parts are readily available everywhere ( I live in Hawaii).
With my new 03 I decided to enhance power with a Powerdyne SC which gave a good increase in power for my needs but it threw all kinds of lites. I guess if these computers run right then it's great but if they don't it kind of leaves you with very very alternatives...
Anyway thank you for all the info, the tester is far out of my budget, I enjoy this site lots of helpful info
Aloha
