I pulled my boat out of the marina yesterday for the winter and today when I went to pull the drop and ball mount out of the reciever hitch, I noticed the two eyes in my stock bumper. Presumably for trailer chains. What drew my attention was that they appear to have been cut into the underside of the bumper and then folded out/down and the driver's side one was folded considerably further down and forward than the passenger side. Also the paint was cracked and flaking at the bend point on the driver's side.
I'm curious do they come from the factory like that or was this maybe damage from being rear ended last year that has gone unnoticed.

That is the way they come from the factory. I don't know why your paint is chipping off them though. I have the factory receiver hitch, so I beat the bumper eyelets with a BFH back up into the bumper flush so they could not be seen.

in most accidents I have seen with chevy's and trailers (6 or so) the eyelets have torn off due to the weight of the trailer on them when the hitch ball shears off, so I wouldn't trust them anyway.

Mine has the chrome bumper so no cracked paint. They are both down at equal 45* angles.
