2004 Fuel Tank
Hey Guys I've always been more of a reader(lurker) and not posted much on here, I've found some awesome information from all of ya'll but I've searched and found some info but nothing has really answered my questions. I have found that like most, my fuel tank on my '04 is cracked and i need to replace it, I've searched for replacements but have only found one place/site that carries a new one. What I'm looking to find out is Can the tank off of an '01-'03 fit into an '04 without modifications or am I going to be stuck spending almost a grand because no one else carries them anymore(and yeah I've checked other sites/places for used and the only one I've found is almost 1K miles away).

Re: 2004 Fuel Tank
I own an 04. And I can tell you a steel tank (like that comes in a 01-02) will not work with your factory sending unit. And plastic crew tank should work. I just had to replace my sending unit and learned that steel and plastic sending units are different. If you want an older steel tank there is a thread on here where we were discussing if you could swap from plastic to steel but I don't remember where it is.
Re: 2004 Fuel Tank
So if I were to switch out the tank and fuel pump housing unit/sending unit would it bolt in with the existing straps or would I need to replace those also.
2003 - 2004 PLASTIC Fuel Tank
P0442 DTC and fuel leak from "top" of tank.
I reached in from the wheel well and tried to epoxy around the fill neck. It held long enough to pass SMOG but then the dtc set again.
Next I dropped the tank and tried to epoxy it again but it didn't last long either.
Anyway, SMOG test is due again.
The epoxy doesn't work well and I'm too scared to try to plastic weld the HDPE tank myself.
I'm going to look around for someone local that can repair plastic gas tanks or, I guess I have to buy a new one.
Part number on the gas tank is 15171784.
Many places list it for close to $700 or as a discontinued part from GM.
Anyone try this from Radiator Express?

or this on ebay,

Re: 2004 Fuel Tank
Has anyone tried Sikaflex 1a? It is pretty awesome construction adhesive. Seems like it has pretty good chemical resistance. Sticks to anything. It is expensive at over $15 a tube and like urethane once exposed to air it cures. Open it and you don't usually get to save much of the left over. Might be worth a shot?

If you should decide to go with 01 steel tank I have a pump (brand new never installed) I'll sell ya. Listed here in the classified section with a number of other parts as well. 1 Delphi fuel pump (FG0070) with wire harness fits 97-02 w/steel tank. $50.00. No charge for shipping.
2001 CC LS, pewter, stock, 4.3,Wait4meperformance, CFM throttle blade, Helix throttle body spacer, 4spd auto, 3button electric 4x4 shift, heavy duty factory suspension, Bilsteins, 1" rear wheel spacers, skid plates.
Re: 2004 Fuel Tank
I knew if I procrastinated long enough another solution would present itself.
Instead of a $500 replacement tank, I'm going to try this "ICV- inlet check valve" repair kit.

Re: 2004 Fuel Tank
There's a source for brand new metal replacements for the plastic tanks. But I too am trying the ICV valve. Got it installed today and my fuel pump isn't turning on. Relay is kicking as it should. No action in the tank

Re: 2004 Fuel Tank
I believe this is a long term solution for the filler neck failure on the plastic tanks.
FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE (ICV) is what to search for.
I received mine from www.ellisautomationsolutions.com
It’s totally fixed my fuel leak.
