carburating a tbi?

I have an opportunity to get an '86 s10 for $300. Among other juicy parts from this truck, I could use the engine. (The 3.4 would be the best for me, but my orthodontic bill won't allow me to afford a new 3.4 at this time.) The mechanic who owns the parts truck said that a carburated intake manifold won't go onto the '86 with the TBI. Maybe there is a reason, but I can't see why.

Is there a problem with slapping the intake from my '84 2.8 onto the '86 2.8 and dropping the donor engine into my '84 CC? (water pump and such notwithstanding)

My apologies if this has already been posted. I searched, but couldn't find the answer.

Not sure,I dropped a TBI 2.8l from an 86 into my old 84 and never looked back. Other than that it ran great and was one hopped up 2.8 with all the mods I had done to it.
