An "EX" snailmailed me a letter telling me that I had some coming. I went to
http://www.missingmoney.com/ and plugged in my last name "Wetter" and the state that came up. Found my "real" name and got into the official Ohio government site handling money that companies are required to give to when the owner cannot be found.
It's not much. Close to a grand and it is a result of one those old life insurance policies that my Father took out when the salesman collected weekly or monthly going door to door
I lucked out and found the needed proof that Ohio requires and filled out their forms. I called the office handling it for Ohio and was advised that I was "good to go"! I'll mail out Ohio's form with my copies of the required documentation tomorrow.
I will double my head counts on all available pet ducks until the money is actually here but, I smell new mods
EDIT.........Never throw out paper work. The toughest thing that I had to prove was that I had lived at one of my many addresses that I lived at while in college. I managed to find my grades that were sent "quarterly" to my place of residence. Canceled checks, bills and receipts had been trashed long ago. I lived there briefly in 1974

Thanks for the link
Reed!
I have found all kinds of info for myself and some for my grandfather that shows he is clearly entitled to some life insurance that he was not aware of.

found that the local university owes my father in law something - says less than $100, but still - thanks!
What's bad is that the "last known address" listed is where they still live. Tells me the state went to a lot of effort to deliver that one.

Never thought I'd be saying thanks to my "Ex" after all these yrs but, I did.
It's a shame these state governments don't pay the modest interest rate that the federal government does when it discovers that a worker is owed back pay.
BTW, the address was one one of the weirdest ones I've had.
18 1/2 3rd ST. The Plains, Ohio

I've heard back from Ohio and it will take 90-120 days with a 5% charge for handling fees. What about the interest they have earned with the money all these yrs? Oh well, I shouldn't biyitch!
