Congrats!! The 2.2 is pretty lethargic but if you're going for better mpgs it does the trick.
Here's a pic of my new daily.

That Malibu SS is pretty sharp, I was never a fan of that style untill i just saw that pic. It needs to be black though . Yeah the 2.2 is great on gas i am averaging 32 on the hwy and arond 26 in town. If i keep the s10 long enough to the point where its not my DD anymore...you better belive something big is going to be under the hood.

I agree the Malibu isn't the best looking car but it was in the price range I wanted to be in. The Trailblazer is our "fancy" car if we need something nicer to drive. The Malibu makes a good daily. It's fast (240 hp) and it handles like it's on rails. I took a right turn at the stoplight yesterday at about 35 moh and it didn't even squeel the tires! I love the handling.
I traded the Jimmy and it was sold within 3 hours LOL!

Be careful using the sound of tires in judging a curve.
My 1st gen eclipse/talon/laser awd didn't squeal either. I had to lock up the brakes for a dog one time and there was no squeal, then the smoke caught up with me. oem tires were a very soft compound.

Malibu SS gets the 3.9 V6. Only the larger SS cars get the 5.3. I almost got the Impala SS but it was more than I wanted to spend for a daily.

All I intended to say is that some softer compounds will not squeal. Those OEMs never did do it and if, you keep raising speeds in a particular curve waiting on it, you could be in trouble. Even when I skidded we'll over 30' and had two black skid marks, there was no sound at all. They did wear out well under 20K. Personally, I thanked that dog for letting me know that.killian96ss wrote:I pay very close attention to the sound of my tires when I have my SS on road courses. Your right! I was just messin with ya. I certainly wouldn't recommend testing your limits on public streets.f9k9 wrote:All I intended to say is that some softer compounds will not squeal. It's N/A and with a curb weight around 3300 lbs, it scoots! Considering I was driving a 190hp Jimmy that weighed probably around 5000lbs, this is a HUGE improvement!!killian96ss wrote:Is the 3.9L V-6 supercharged or N/A in your SS?JimmyDiamond wrote:Malibu SS gets the 3.9 V6. I did have a Supercharged GTP a few years ago and this feels pretty close acceleration wise but the supercharger pulled a little harder.
I agree. Our 2003 Bonneville was a super nice car. We traded that for the Trailblazer back in March. Compared to the Bonneville, you can tell the Malibu has a sticker price $9k less. I just sat in the Bonne last weekend and it felt like a Cadillac inside by comparison. I didn't want 2 new expensive vehicles so the Malibu does everything I need it to for less $$. Plus, it really is actually fun to drive!JD, I've haven't been a big fan of Chevy cars for several years (except for the vette), but that Malibu is growing on me 240 horses helps too

Congrats on the new dailys....both of you.
That 2.2 will serve you well for years to come. I've got the same setup 2.2/5spd in my Xtreme, and it gets great milage, tolerable power, and has lasted well for the 185k miles I've driven it in the last 6 years!

Congrats on the new dailys. From what I have been told Steve the Impala SS has the power, but gets worse highway mileage than the S-10 Vortec...even with the engine cylinder cutoff. The guy I talked to traded in his honda for it...complained bitterly about the mileage.
I was reading an article about the difference in GM and the overseas competition. Companies like toyota focus heavily on a model and refining it. GM prefers to spread themselves thinner and rely instead on selling more through its brand variety than making any one model stellar.
By the way, they are supposedly in the final stages of deciding whether the new Camaro concept car is going into production.

GM already gave the go ahead on Camaro production for 2009 a few months back.RaleighBlaZeR2 wrote:By the way, they are supposedly in the final stages of deciding whether the new Camaro concept car is going into production.
