Anyone have any ideas on how to remove the rust from my spacers?

You spacers should be aluminum and what you are seeing is transferred from your hubs. I used a drill and wire brush and it came off nicely. It also solved a slight vibration I had. I cleaned the hubs as well. Just a thought. Someone may have a better one.

Brillo Pad? Removes rust and soaps them up real nice

Nevr-Dull is great!! I use that to polish my chrome exhaust tips. Haven't come across anything else that works quite as well.

Yeah that sounds like a great idea, the rust is built up pretty high, thanks for the info.

This sounds like a pretty good idea at a pretty good price. Looks like it can clean up some other things on my truck also. I tried to order it but they want me to spend at least $10, not a problem.

I like this one the best! You see, my youngest has kitchen duty every night. So I could just throw the spacers in the sink and wake up in the morning and presto chango, everything sparkling clean!

I bought my can of Nevr-dull at Murrays Autoparts... I bet Advanced Autoparts or Napa would also carry this product. I think I may have spent $4 at most!

All kidding aside I wouldn't have my Holly try to clean my spacers, but I tried it myself. I got the SOS pad out and actually got quite a bit of rust off, but there is still quite a bit of deep rust on them. I am going to order some Nevr-dull and get a wire brush.

Thanks for all your input guys. I was kinda hoping you guys could tell me that there was something I could just spray on and wipe off the rust. Oh well wishful thinking.

Wallyworld has the nevr-dull here but, it is mainly used to polish and does a fine job. Sometimes the rust is a little to thick for a simple polish but, try it.

you can get the nevrdull at almost any auto parts store

Try Eagle One Mag Cleaner for non powder coated wheels. My first S-10 had after market aluminum wheels that where rough cast not polished. The brake dust and rust went deep into the surface. Eagle One would make them look like new. I still use it to clean aluminum parts. It has a light acid in it so be careful and read the directions if you do try it.

Well guys thanks for all your help. I tried the SOS pad, the Eagle One Wheel cleaner and nevr-dull. I got a lot of the rust off, but there is still a lot of rust left on the spacers.

I think part of my problem with the rust is that my wife and I go skiing almost every weekend in the winter and do a lot of driving through ice and snow and then back down the hill later in the afternoon where it's warmer.







Anyone have any more idea's?

Eliminate the source and live with the discoloration.

Clean and lightly paint the hubs/drums. Clean the wheels.

I was thinking that but wasn't sure, do you think black rustolium would be a good idea? Also, I am worried about the hubs, drums and the wheels having rust since the spacers had rust on both sides.

I didn't mean the trips. Clean up the rust and seal the unprotected metal.
Rustolem or another rust inhibiting paint would be good. I use a primerless paint called Armor. Cheap , cures fast and fairly durable.

Clean them a light sanding and use Boeshield T-9
