I'd love to have one of those! Looks pretty sweet!

"Just to prove that German automakers aren't the only ones who plan products based on what their rivals have done, GM comes out with the Camaro--a retro-styled, two-door coupe with a honking big V-8 that harks back to the glory days of Motown. If that sounds familiar, that's exactly what Ford did with the Mustang. Hot on the heels of the Pony car's success, DaimlerChrysler has dusted off the Challenger and Chevy has produced a new Camaro, a nameplate that was more recently interred. The muscular Camaro concept is pure '69 updated, with the kind of subtle detailing that makes it look up-to-the-minute. The interior is very glitzy, and pays homage to the original, even down to the GM seat belt insignia and the twin instrument pods.

The car is 186.2 inches long and rides on a 110.5-inch wheelbase. The wheels are 21s at the front and 22s at the rear, shod with monster 275/30 front and 305/30 rear tires, which should be able to corral the 400 horses from the LS2 6.0-liter V-8 engine powering through a six-speed manual transmission. The show car has a cobbled together chassis with an all-independent suspension, but if it makes it into production, it will use the so-called Zeta Lite architecture that will be shared with Holden in Australia. The good news for GM is that the architecture--while hardly cutting edge--is far more sophisticated than the live-axle Mustang. Insiders say that a $20,000 base model production car could use an inexpensive V-8 (the LS2 would come in a costlier model), so a V-6 version would be offered only to make the car easier to insure. The real car would have smaller wheels, but the overall diameter of the tires wouldn't be much changed. GM vice-chairman and product czar Bob Lutz apparently loves it and joked on the show stand "all I have to do is persuade this man"--referring to GM CEO Rick Wagoner--"to pay for it." "

I love everything but the front end , looks to bulky to me .
I actually have high hopes , There is a chance this concept will be made into production .
You can tell if there are even remotley serious because other than the Rims(21-22") everything else is easy enough to turn into a production car . unlike stuff such as Quad Lambo doors on a SUV .... that type of thing .
I wish we new more , I would like to know if i should start saving for it now !! seriously , I have even considered buying a Mustang ! just because the lack of "muscle" cars from everyone else .

I have heard the new Camaro SS and new GTO Judge will both get a revised LS2 with 425 hp and rear end choices of 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10. This car is gonna be sweet. :D I have also heard rumors that GM will be releasing a more powerfull Corvette SS with a superchaged LS9 that will have just over 600 hp. The Blue Devil Corvette seems to be on hold right now, or GM is just being very tight on info.

That would be my only complaint as well. :? A lower hood line with more of a downward taper would look a little better, but I still like it. :D

I think the front's OK...just too pointy. Flatten it out and I think it's good. The rear view is awesome...looks like a scowling red-eyed demon.

"There are rumors that the new 392 Hemi crate engine, designed for racing, will go along with the new Dodge Challenger body. The 392 is apparently a racing-only engine in current form, not a production design, but a lower-power version may well be made for production and appear in the Challenger. The Challenger concept car to be shown at NAIAS (Detroit, January 2006; the Camaro will also be shown) uses, not surprisingly, the SRT-8 6.1 liter engine — but, unlike any current production LX car, it also has a six-speed manual gearbox. (Automobile suggested that the 510 horsepower 6.4 liter 392 Hemi might be used.) There are issues with the 392 - most notably the question of what untrained drivers will do with that much power. A fairly large number of Vipers left this world unexpectedly."

I like them both. The nose on the camaro would look beter in my opinion if they went to round head lights for a more retro look. I got to say I like the Challenger the best but I also got to admit I have always perfered the chrysler muscle car body lines. We all got our own definition of beauty.

Bah on a 2009 model - this is for sale right now!

Custom built - this version share virtually no sheetmetal with the original 69 model - it is different in dimension and the chassis underneath.

Very nice Camaro, but not for $427,000.00  Imagine what you could build or buy for that price. :D

I dunno - for that $$$ - I wouldend up building something very similar.

Or I could just buy the Aston Martin Vanquish that I want, and be able to afoord gas, insurance and maintainance for a year or so.

I have read in a few places that the Challenger is going to have a 6.1L engine and produce 425 hp. I would like to know the torque on both the Camaro and the Challenger. I would assume a at least 400 ft/lbs for both. The wheel sizes are getting a little out of hand. I have not even looked at the price of a 22 inch performance tire, but I bet it aint pretty. I have to agree that I do not like the nose that much on the Camaro, but I will be in line to get one. The truck will be paid off by then, and hopefully I can save up a nice down payment for the Camaro.

:alert: It's official, GM is going to start production on the new Camaro in 2009 as a 2010 model. :D The convertible model will come out in 2011. So far the only engine options are a 240 hp 3.9L LZ8 V-6 and a 300 hp 5.3L LH6 V-8. :? There is no word on the SS model yet, but you know they will make it. 8)

Some other interesting news from GM.

A new 7.5L V-10 RPO code LTA will be introduced in 2008 in the GMT900 light duty trucks and GMT560 medium duty trucks. The engine will have well over 400 hp and tons of torque. 8)

The new Blue Devil Corvette which will be called the Corvette SS will have a supercharged LS9 engine putting out 650 hp. The new Corvette SS should be out in the next 1-2 years. :D

wow that is great ! , I really wanted a 2001 camaro SS when i was purchasing my first vehicle , I guess i will have another shot . I better start saving now
I don't want to be the one to complain when GM finally gives us something we want , but......... 300 HP , that's it ? :?: By then the Mustang will be pushin 400hp , since it already has 300hp
But I wouldn't thing twice about buying one (if i have the $) just becuase of that HP rating , lots can change in 3 yrs .
Can't wait to see spy shots !!

Not bad --- I'm one of the people that really like Caddy's bold angular styling.

It would be a V- spec CTS for me though.

and what do you want to bet gm will mess up and price it in the high 40,s or even in the 50's . There by cutting out the majority of us that would buy one. Hopefully they will take a lesson from ford and price it right.
