Spare tire carriers?

I know that I'm probably talking to the wrong crowd, but I was wondering if anyone has seen some sort of spare tire mount to go in the cargo area of a SUV?

I can't fit a 31" under my Blazer, and a swing out rear carrier was never made for the 4 door that I am aware of.

Just curoius if someone made something, or if I should start welding something up :-)

alas, I'm prone to loading up several mountain bikes and taking off for the weekend. Spare tire up there would be in the way.

Do you even have room behind the rear seat for a 31"? You could get one of the flat mount Fabtech ones and mount it to the floor if the tire will fit. Otherwise you're probably looking at a custom job.

Yeah I was just eyeballing it this morning before work, and I'm not sure I can fit it at all -- I'll test fit this evening.

eh... spare tires are for chumps anyway. they sure don't inspire confidence. just don't run over anything sharp.

true -- I think I'll take my bumpers off too, and just make sure I don't hit anyone, amd maybe my seatbelts, airbags, and brakes.

Proper anticipation and preparation should negate all of those :-)

im sure you can get the ZR2 blazer mount to work, seems like the only difference in the back of the the 2 door and 4 door is the rear window angle.

What about adding a front receiver hitch and a mount to add one to the front.

It may be a dumb idea, but I think back to how Grandpas truck had a spare mounted to the front bumper.

Just shooting ideas out there.

I kinda like the looks of this roof rack. Anyone know if they make one for our CC's (doubt it) or could one be adapted?

Check out Warnoffroads. I think it is the same rack?
Surco makes several sizes pick the size you want ;).

There is a thread on these roof racks some where.

There was a few companies that sold bumper/hitch mounted spare tire racks for many SUVs. They mounted to the bumper and hitch(or something like that) and swings away. I've seen them mostly on Jeep SUVs as they had inside mounted spares as well. I don't know for sure if they made one for the blazer, but do a google search and look around.

Update: I've been doing some searches and only coming up with custom(pricey) solutions. I can't seem to find those bumper/hitch mounted ones except one for a Jeep GC. Will keep looking.

I did find this which is universal:

Would be nicer if it swings away since your blazer probably has the tailgate instead of the hatchback opening.

Good Luck,
Con

Hiddenhitch.com has a simple one that does not swing but it's probably cheaper.
