Fixer up or new truck...no good small crew cabs?

Nice 8)
I am just cleaning out the last of the S-10 parts this week. Can't believe I still had three upper consoles

They sat in the classifieds too long. Gave them away this week :) Bravada looks the same, it just gets the Homelink and trip computer. Astro did too , but the compass sensor is remote.

Cleaning out the rest of the stuff tomorrow. Scrap metal bin for most of it, and dumpster for the rest.

Im looking for the one with the homelink and maybe the better info center stuff. If its no different than what the crew comes with stock then no need.

The trip computer install is a good one. Homelink, "meh" ...maybe not so much. Opened the door a few times. Novelty, not necessity.

I would use the homelink feature every day. I have a garage at my place, two cars, and a roomie. Right now we dont have a garage door button. Also at my parents place they have a garage too so that would go as #2, house in florida, #3. My parents place they rent and they charge $50 bucks a remote, needless to say they only have one and moms van and the audi both have homelink, dads truck gets the button!

At least its probably easier to add homelink to these trucks than it is to my VW GTI. The part alone is a few hundred dollars.

The overhead console with trip computer thread has all the information. It is plug-n-play with the harness from the C209 connector. You get both lighted visors , auto dimming rearview mirror and the auto-climate control sensor too.

Best choice is to gut a Bravada like I did.

Yep me too... Of course, as I sit and start planning this and some repairs, my wife tells me "you should get a new truck"! WTH? I like my truck... Just not the fuel bill, $60 2-3 times a week average is starting to hurt a bit more than I like.

My mother says the same thing, im not married yet so I have the mom telling me all that crap. For what its worth, I can buy all the stuff to make this one happy for much much less than the car payments of new. Plus nobody makes a worthwhile crew cab anymore of this size. A fullsize truck is too much for me. Never again. Thankfully I have my little VW to drive when I need to save on the gas.

Don't discount the Colorado and Canyon. I really like what I have seen. A little lift, Baja fenders and they make a great looking rig!

Not a bad rig

In many ways they are an improvement over the S-10. Look at the suspension:

Canyon suspension

Ball joints not only easier to replace, but beefier. Rack and pinion steering. Look how far back in there the frame is. Room to turn big tires!

I'd wheel this:

True, bigger ball joints and rack and pinion are good things, maybe. I would imagine the bigger ball joints are because the truck is heavier and has heavier suspension. Still I dont have the cash to afford one, and with all the bad rap with mechanical issues I have heard and dealer nightmares I will stick to what I already know so very well.

I like this conversation...

Colorados have the front diff on the passenger side, I'm pretty sure. What that tells me is a good old 6 lug front 10 bolt would work for a solid axle swap, along with a 6 lug semi float 14 bolt rear. My k5 has chromoly shafts in the front 10 bolt and disks on the rear 14. Other than that, they are both basically stock with some newer parts inside. I've run 35x13.5 toyo mts with no problems on either axle (since the chromolys and rear axle swap).

If I could have found someone to buy a kidney, I would have gotten a v8 Colorado instead of the crew cab s10.

However.... I could be totally wrong about which side the transfer case front output is on...

It was spotlighted in 4wd and off road a few months back. Actually pretty well done.

I've seen tons of V8 Colorados around here? They are factory. I think they were only available in the cc or the 2wd sport model. 5.3 w/ the 4L60E.

Well just found they only made them in 09. Too bad it looks like it was a piece of crap. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/200 ... ented-test

Their comments about the interior quality is exactly why I would not bother purchasing one of these trucks from GM new or used. I am pretty certain that my 2002 crew with 255K has weathered extremely well for Chevy interior, it still looks great! I dont think the Colorados dollar store toy section interior would stand up the same.

Here’s a shot of my 2009 Colorado interior with factory leather.
Maybe I’m easy to please but it doesn’t seem so atrocious to me.
Talking about the Colorado/ Canyon now as a choice is a bit late for a new one because they have finished production of this model.
If you dislike this one search out a picture of the new redesigned 2013.Not good.

Looks pretty good to me  I have done little more than sit in the back of one and look over the front. The battery cooling system is ... cool ;)

Looks good in pics, I just wasnt satisfied with them when I test drove them at the dealer. I drove a 2008 back when i was going to buy a Canyon, which seemed nicer than the Colorado interior. The 2010 canyon rental I drove was okay, but there was just something about it I didnt care for. The small pick up market in the US is dying though, and with the bad track record the colorados have had I can see why. For what they wanted for that V8 version of the truck for 2 grand more you can buy a fullsize truck with more goodies. Fords reasoning now is that the fullsize pickups are getting better MPG if not the same as a small truck, so nobody is buying them. Oh well.
