Law Enforcement Local and State

Post by green02crew »

I know some of you have law enforcement background and I am up to the background investigation/polygraph part of the application process. I was just wondering what some of your opinions were for state or local if it comes down to being able to choose either. Pay and benefits similar just a difference in area.

As a state cop, you'll be writing lots of tickets, and responding to accident scenes often. As a local, you deal with all of the domestic calls, crooks, druggies, tickets, etc... Whatever floats your boat. Both can be equally exiting, but each has it's downsides. Go federal, much better pay and bennies.... My $.02

Thats funny I have heard to go federal a few times now. Maybe in the future it will be a step but you always have to start somewhere.

Thanks, I start the first of next month. Some training with the department first then off to the academy in August. A little time to find an apartment and move.

Less than a week and I'm off to the Academy. That'll give me some time to save up for more mods since I won't be buying food, gas, electricity or much else for that matter other than bootshine

If you're going to be a cop, you'll enjoy this...

They aren't called "drug dealers" anymore.
Now they are called "Un-licensed pharmacists"

Haha I will share that! I'm sure they'll like it. They already enjoy how people aren't trouble makers, they are simply mis-understood. Yeah ok.

I enjoy working for the state. I usually get what I need, equipment wise, and the benifits are awesome. If you have made it that far, that is good, but you still have a few months ahead of you

Well back from the academy and onto the street tomorrow. The past 3 months were... not fun. But it went alright and I'm state certified so I can go to any agency in NH and some other states.

Well, an opening became available in my home area. I have transferred to another department. Smaller, friendlier, more like a home town. I am planning on buying a house in the area as prices are in the favor of the buyer currently. If I get a place I want, I will have a garage!

Yes I am awaiting news of the tax break. I would have a hard time getting a loan from a bank with my age ect. I am ultimately hoping that I can rent to own but those will be few and far between.

Lots of programs out there to help 1st time homeowners get into a place. I would check through a local Credit Union for programs and rates, often they have better and more creative financing than the banks. You might need to take some homeowners courses or such to get into some of the programs but they are worth the time. Money talks today if you have a good down payment, solid job and good credit you should have little problem.
