03 HPP III & thermo

Post by snowsurfer »

Just got a new 03 and have a HPP III programmer on order was wondering if it will adjust a 160 degree thermostat or just 180?

Anyone know the proper part #s for the thermostats.

Have to order online and want to be sure to get correct one..

Steve

From what HenryJ has said, I don't think the PCM will allow you to run the 160 thermo and programming. Something about not reaching "warm-up" or soemthing like that and the PCM throws a SES light.

If you don't mind me asking...where did you get the HPPIII and how much?

I don't know for sure about the 2003 HPPIII , but there is no option for a colder stat in the 2001 model.

The 180* stat worked for me until I went to the larger radiator, so it is "borderline"

The PCM uses the IAT (Idle Air Temp) sensor readings in conjunction with the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor to determine how long it should take to reach the temperature threashold of 173*.

Earlier HPP's lower the threashold to allow use of the 160* stat.

Jet performance sells a 180* stat.

There is some talk of a RobertShaw , and a Stant replacement stat being much cheaper, but I have not been able to locate one or the part #'s for one that will work, yet. (lots of talk , but nothing confirmed)

Summary: I'd wait on the HPPIII before ordering a stat, but if you really want one , you can order the Jet 180* #10171 for about $20

160 Stat

Post by Superchargedcrew »

I got the 160 stat in mine when I got the hpp3. And there is no adjustment and it trips the ses light but I just ignore it and I have not had any problems yet but I do know it runs richer all the time now. Which hurts my fuel econemy.. :D
