What do you plan to do with your truck?
If you plan to install a body lift, headers are not an option. If you want to have a shop do a cat back, you could save some money.

Personally I do think the 3" catback and a delta flow muffler is the "sweet spot" for our 4.3L
There have been a few install the Gibson system. It may be the only true bolt in system. Try a search for "Gibson" and you will find some good reading.

Some things I know I have said before. Bigger or multiple pipes take longer to heat. Gasses move faster over a hot surface than a cold one. That means a smaller single pipe could actually be better than a bigger one or duals.
It is a tough balancing act. I would quiz the local guru at your muffler shop. He will know what works for your area...
Each system can have it's own dynamics and each piece can change the overall tone.
It is much the same as any brass instrument. Length, diameter, and muffling devices change the sound. Press the keys on a trumpet to lengthen the pipe and change the sound. Change the size of the pipe to a tuba and the tone deepens, Add a large bell for a tip, like the flugel horn or smaller one like a coronet. The sound changes again.
Your exhaust is much the same. How do you want your instrument to sound?

My gibson is aluminized, it was ten years before the muffler rusted at the inlet

I have no resonance in the cab. No real milage improvements, but not sure.
I do have headers also, my 95Z gets between 15 and 20 depending on how much highway driving I do.
