I have a 12 volt activated vacuum solenoid left over from a failed attempt at a high idle modification.
It could be used as an isolator for the front axle. Would there be any advantage to having a 2wd lowrange?

You can attain 2LO very easily by installing a Posi-Lok kit, engaging 4LO on the X-case...and just not engaging the Posi-Lok cable. I use 2LO all the time off-road! In fact, just about every time I complete a nasty section of trail, I disengage the front axle via the Posi-Lok cable, just to ease the strain on the drivetrain. Works flawlessly!
