Post by loki »

Hey hey!!

I'm looking to increase mid range power in my 4.3 vortec engine, will a throttle body spacer work or am I just wasting my money??

Glad you made it.

A search in the modifications forum should yield the results you want.

I would say don't expect much in the way of performance gains from a spacer.

Hey hey!!

I was talking to an old hot rod guy and he says it should, in a perfect world, fill in my mid range power problem. My truck tends to strain a bit going up hills on the hiway. Are there any other things I should be looking at before the spacer?
I'm still a bit new here so its slow going looking thru everything.

What mods have you done so far? Intake and exhaust is the best place to start to get more power. You could get a drop in K&N filter and open up the air box or just get their fuel injection performance kit. As far as the exhaust the stock muffler is a big restriction so replacing it with any aftermarket performance muffler will help the engine breathe better. The throttle body spacer does help a little, but you should do the other mods first to improve airflow. BTW, welcome to the forum loki.

Hey hey!!

Thanks for the response. I didn't want to open the air box up because I spend alot of time in loose wet mud. It takes forever to clean out the motor after play time. I had an aftermarket air filter on my 1999 Xtreme, and it worked great, but the same muddy problem might happen.

I'm still under warentee so I don't want to get to crazy with the mods yet.

I'm still under warranty too, and I've had my truck buried in the mud several times and never got any mud in the air filter. Even with the K&N FIPK II, I have never had any problems. :D Your warranty will not be voided for having aftermarket accessories, unless the failure is caused by the accessory itself.

He speaks the truth  The only way you can go wrong with an intake is to spray too much oil on the filter when you recharge it. You'll toss a SES light but you can carefully clean your MAF yourself and cure that.

I would also suggest the HPPIII, along with the exhaust mod and the air box mod. I have all three of these mods and have had my truck in the dealership twice for warranty work without any problems. They even advertise and sell K&N FIPK at the dealership where I bought my truck and have my warranty work done. If you do these 3 mods you will be surprised how much it will wake up that 4.3

Hey hey!!

SOrry about this but what's a SES light and HPPIII?

I'm still a little new to the lingo here. If nobody has had problems with the K&N I guess I'm off to do alittle shopping.
Thanks.
