Westen tube steps, mine served as a "slider"

Post by mjmcdowell »

I took my son camping this past holiday wekend up to our usual area and since the last rains the trail was exceptionaly nasty, to make it short we came out of one mudhole and I put the rt. front tire on a rock and preceded slowly up and over it then "crunch" came down on a partialy hidden one that contacted the tube step just under the rt, rear door, a little gas a little more "crunch", slide and we were free. Once on dry level ground we examned the truck for damage, none! the step however now has a 6" battle scar, dent on it which is not too bad and just visable. Looking back and finding the offending rock I think that step just saved my rear door sill some damage, any way we were luckey, nothing more eventful happned, lots more mud holes navagated, great weather, good trip.........$30 at the local carwash at home, stay safe mjmcdowell

Good to hear that they saved you. That builds some confidence in the set on my truck.
Are you running the stock mounts?

H J, yes the mounts are stock, I must be truthful I was going verrry slow , I found out long ago if you are going to hit something possibly it pays off the slower you are going. Nevertheless I too am pleased that the outcome was not too bad I would not make it a practice to use them as "sliders" intentionaly, but I mounted them so that I could get some degree of protection, and I did, stay safe, mjmcdowell

I can vouch for the usefullness of sliders/bars

this last weekend on saturday I went to tuttle creek orv park and set my slider on a rock while trying to climb a huge ledge. it was TOTALLY on top of the rock, I had 2 tires in the air. I can't imagine what that would have done to my door if I would have done the same without the sliders

here is a link to a couple of the pics, I didn't get any of it on the slider though :(
