MSD 6A

Post by Crew02 »

I just won this auction. Do I need to replace the factory coil when I install it ? The MSD coil does not seem to be rated much higher than the factory one. I am going to replace the plug wires, but is there anything else I should replace?

Stick with the stock coil. The Blaster coil is not recommended for use with the ignition control.
I tried it and my first coil failed, so I went back to the stock coil.
I am now trying it again, we'll see if this one lasts.

Other than plug wires you are set.

You might consider changing plugs too. The MSD has been known to eat platinum plugs and it is also not recommended to use them.
I went to Irridiums and they have been working really well.

Brule did you use NGK part # TR55IX for the iridiums? This is the part # they recommend on their site for the CC, but since you are already using them I just thought I would ask first before ordering some. :) They actually list the same part # for my SS. :? Very different engines. :?

Brule, did you run them with the stock .060 gap, or open them up a little since you have the MSD6A?
