Throttle Body Spacers...

.....Split my own thread, cause I figured Brule was busy enough :-)

As far as the throttle body spacers with spiral grooves that supposedly make more power and torque, you would be better off using a smooth bore spacer instead because the air can't spin anyway due to the throttle blade being in the way. I have heard from some people that using the spiral grooved spacers will make a whistling noise. Overall a spiral spacer will not make more power than a smooth spacer, and if anything it will create more turbulence, which you don't want!
Ok -- for those of you that are running TB spacers --- what brands are you using, and approx what did you pay for them?

I'm looking to do some power upgrades and intake/exhaust are the first things I'm going for.

I installed my street & performance tb spacer over a month ago now. It is spiral cut, produces an annoyng whistle, 1-2 mpg less mileage on the highway on my last 1,900km trip, slightly increased throttle response, but not worth the money IMO. I bought mine used off a guy who said the same thing locally for $70 cdn vs $125 new, just so I could see what all the hype is about.

I'm running the Helix Power tower I'll have to check the file and see what it's cost was (more than $50)

IMO, it does one thing that I felt was an improvement....raise the TB 1" ;) (which was an advantage after the BL)

Another reason that I used the spiraled spacer was to aid in mixing of the (restricted) EGR gasses. After installation of the CFM throttle blade and being unable to eliminate the EGR system entirely, I felt that this might help.

It does whistle at midrange mild accelleration (turbo/blower like sound), no change to mileage or performance.
