Paging hobie about sliders

Post by quickbiker »

Hobie, did you get the powder coating on the slider of yours? I was thinking to pass on it, cause when I weld them on, it'll probably burn off anyhow. I think I got the info to buy them now.

sweet, when do they get there?
are they the round ones?
when are you going to build the custom front bumper, then run some tube along the front fenders...then ditto for the rear...

He said they are off in the mail today. They are the round ones that angle up. I don't want to add too much weight right now. I am being easy on the front end, plus I am maxed out on one side of my tbars. I screwed up when I let a pair of SL keys pass through my hands!

I guess my project is more of a slow one, replace as it breaks. I am still debaiting on the 33's/trimming idea cause of the added stress to the front and gearing. I am ready to mod more, but don't want to mod till I desperately need it. I did ding my left side pretty good on my favorite trail a couple weeks ago, so I was wishing I had the sliders at that time. Check out the scuff.

Here is the rock that got me. And in this pic I did it successfully, just rubbed a bit on the frame. It's difficult to get the right line. That is the most difficult part of that trail. You can see the rock there.

And here is when I did it stock, my first real scuffages, almost 2 years ago, in the same place, but never did get over the obstacle, had to winch back through the trail.

Well, I don't know whether I want to weld them or bolt them on with C angle. Like this one guy did with his Taco, he should patent his setup. He even made his own sliders. I may take the lazy way out and just weld them, dunno. That Taco on my last ride was set up the best of an Taco's I have seen with stock IFS. He had lockers front/rear. He didn't need any flex, he just glided like a brick across the rocks. He is also a very experience wheeler. Lookit.

Yea, it is with the Taco's. I even read an article on the install in a 4x4 rag. I think they it was ARB. Strange, but true. Taco's definitely have the S-10's on aftermarket.

Just one more thing on the list that they can get and we can't. :?

Not if you've seen it in action. Now I don't know how long it will go before something snaps. But he drives very smoothely, no jerking, they way it's supposed to be done anyhow.

Or at least this: http://www.bayougeep.com/pages/products/dynatrac44.htm

You won't get anything worth anything from that.

Yea, mostly my anique stick welder! It works great when when everything is laid out in front of you, but put it in that location and you can ask my wife how much I was saying *(%(^*%(**&. But they look great on there now that I am done. And the second support from the rear is not in a good location. No matter how I tried to set it up, it lined up right on the bottom of the body mount. I'll have a heck of a time if I gotta get that out some day, but hopefully not. And I had to put another support right over top of the holes for the bolt access for my tranny cross support. Hopefully I won't ever have to take that out either. I guess I could drill new access holes if I ever did. They do look nice though.

I checked Hobie's the other day when I met upw ith him and bought his spacers from him -- None of his interfere with any body mount bolts, but he did mention that when he went to pick his up, he and the guy builging them measured and welded the support legs on there at the shop, so it wasnt fully assembled like yours were when they were shipped to you.

Ohyeah -- Hobie's were solid as a rock (pun intended  )

I really liked the way they looked on his truck - I'd consider them now, except that the lil lady went off and bought me some Westin step rails for Xmas, and I don't wanna have to bother with shipping them back :D
