I must be an idiot , I am trying to do the stock air box mod before i leave on a 3200km road trip . I need as many fuel saving mods done as possible .
But I cant find how the box is mounted , I tried searching ,but didn't find a pic of what I am supposed to do to get the box out , I know what to do once it is out though .
On Mine Once You Remove The Top & The Filter, There Was A Bolt Over By The Fuse Box I Had To Remove Then There Are 2 Rubber Bushings Up Front I Just Pulled Up On And They Popped Off. I Had To Wiggle It Around The Upper Radiator Hose Too
The Rubber Bushings Stay With The Airbox And Pull Off The Little Plastic Studs That Are In The Center, I Was Worried I'd Break Mine So I Sprayed A Little WD40 In The Center To Make It Slide Off Easier. I Just Wiggled It Back & Forth Until They Slid Off The Posts
Alright , I finally have the Air Box Mod DONE ! . whoo hoo , it only took me 1yr after finding out about it to get it done .
I used a dremel cut off wheel , worked well . Then I went and smoothed out the edges where i cut with a sanding drum attachment .
I have not taken it out for a drive since , but I did start it and noticed a little bit more "air sounds" comeing from box .
Didn't bother modifing the headlight area though , didn't have the time .
Also , in the bottom of the air box , I drilled 3 small holes to allow water to escape , if by chance any ever gets up that high .
So ya just saw a large chunk off the front/bottom of the lower aircleaner housing?
Hmmm. I have 2 bandsaw's & I'm not afraid to use them... what exactly does this accomplish? I did use the search feature, but a couple of people have "airbox mod" in their sig lines so it throws up every thread they've ever replied to or started... none of which had anything to do with airboxes that I could see...

It helps the truck breathe better. The inlet hole for the box is normally only 2" I think. While this is good for keeping debris and water out of the box, it's not good for airflow.

I can honestly say that I have never heard that one before!
That's older than I am! Need I say more?
