Brake Caliper Paint?

To paint or not to paint! That is the question???

Well, I painted mine. Red truck, red calpiers. Some may think that this is a "Ricer" mod. Well it is! I don't care! I like it. I painted mine because, when I bought after market wheels, the design I chose exposed more of the brake system.

The mod itself was easy. (You of coarse want to take the wheels off the truck! ) My kit came with the brake parts cleaner (you may want to buy an extra can) paint, & brush. I used my wife's toothbrush to scrub the parts clean. ( Just wanted to see if you were paying attention! ) The paint goes on thin & takes several coats. If you work on two calipers at a time, the first one will be ready for the next coat by the time you finish the second. Just keep going back & forth until you have the desired paint thickness. Easy as that. But hey! Here's a tip! Don't DRIVE the truck until you have let the paint cure for the specified amount of time! My wife saw that I was done & wanted me to go to the store for something. She then couldn't understand why I wouldn't want to drive my own truck to "show off" my wonderful paint job! :!: :!: :!: Folks, she just ain't right! :!:

We are going to need more details.

What brand did you use? Where did you buy it? How much did it cost?

I imagine that Eastwood would carry this sort of thing, but didn't see anything except aerosol coatings.

EDIT: Looks like Duplicolor is probably the stuff - Caliper paint

I just saw a Duplicolor kit at the parts store but, do not know if it was aerosol or not. It was in a box :D

Caught myself looking at the black kit but, reminded myself that my calpers don't show

Ummm. I think I used the Duplicolor. It is available everywhere. Like any Auto Zone, K-Mart, Wally World, etc. I can't remember how much the "kit" cost. I just know that it was under $20.

I went with the brush on paint. You can find kits available in aeresol cans, but for me, that was out of the question. With the spray on, you would either have to do a ton of masking or pull the whole caliper off to paint. It just seemed so much easier to brush it on. I used a different brush than the kit came with. If I remember right, the kit brush was pretty small so I used a 1" brush I had laying around in the garage. The paint leveled out pretty well too, so there weren't many brush marks to speak of.

Now, I painted my rear calipers too. But you really can't see them. They sit a lot further back than the front ones. That might be something to consider IF you are looking to add COLOR behind your rims. If you are just doing black, then have at it.

HJ's Caliper paint link is the stuff I used. Check it out. it has the instructions right there on the site.

The paint seems to be holding up well aslo. No visible cracks or chips after the 6 months or so that I have had them done.

EDIT: Also, don't worry about having enough paint. Paint those layers on one after another! I did all four calipers on my CC & still had about 1/4 can of paint left!
