Gauge pod

I've been thinking that with this years tax refund ( I hope) I might add a fuel guage for the aux. fuel tank.

I came across this guage pod:

It is an "Autometer / Gauge works" Steering column pod.

Any body seen one of these?

What about an a-pillar gauge pod? There's got to be one of those available.

Or you could maybe engineer something into the left center A/C vent. You probably never use A/C up there in the frozen north anyway.

We get the extremes here , a week of sub-zero in the winter and a month of 100+ in the summer. The wonderful world of the high mountian desert.Temps regularly vary 50-60 degrees from high to low ,during the day.

I was thinking about the A pillar , but they don't have a single. Only dual or triple.

You'll just have to get a blower so that you can fill that extra gauge location with a boost gauge then.

I was wrong earlier in this thread. They do indeed have a Steering Column Gauge Pod for our trucks! AutoMeter Guage Works part# 15007

The "shell" installs over the existing column cover , attaching with your choice of: double stick adhesive and / or press in ratchet fasteners.

The pictures don't do it justice.

I decided to use a AutoMeter's Designer Black "Streetrod Series" fuel gauge. They have a domed glass lense, "chromed" black bezel and similar face for my existing instrument cluster.

The gauge is a press fit in the pod and has a small channel for the wiring.

I thought I'd be dissapointed by installing over the existing, but I think it looks pretty good in the test fit above. The lower part of the speedometer may be hidden a bit. But ,overall it looks good so far.

I'll be wiring and installing this weekend.

thats a great looking piece! it doesnt get in the way nearly as much as my A-Piller pod.

Very cool! I like it but I drive with the wheel pretty high so I bet it will block too much of my view. Let us know how it goes.

you go from long island all the way down to the pines? thats quite a drive. are you thinking of matawan? i get that a lot. ive been to the pines a couple of times, there are better places closer though. . .

Well, PB is the closest to me. Your in North NJ? I'll have to check out where to go. BTW I have a Suzuki DR200se so we might have to ride together one day.

Added a couple "line of sight shots" Day and night-

It is all in and wired , except for the sender. I need to finish off the gas in the aux. tank, before I cut a hole for the sender

P.S. I used the included green filter for the gauge lighting, to help dim it a bit , so it would not be a distraction at night.

The universal pods could be adapted to any application.

This was just my way of not losing the information. The pods can be rather hard to find at a reasonable cost.
If someone wanted to create a custom pod on something other than a pillar or column, these might be an option.
