Ok, I'm not saying I'd do this myself (depends on what it would look like I guess).. BUT..
I was over in Visalia (about 20 miles from here) last weekend.. There was a new crew cab 'Taco' (Tacoma) 4x4 with a flatbed on it instead of the regular truck bed. looked like a Scelzi bed)
Like this general shape, but without the stake sides, and not wider than the truck body:
Before you gag it DIDNT look bad at all.. It was professionaly custom made, gloss black diamond tread.. I wish I'd had my camera..
One of the resons they did it they said was the non-standard short bed that came on their truck (it was made back to a standard 6ft. with the 'bumper' part of the bed.. the hoop setup like fullsize trucks/semis/etc have), and they actually use the flatbed for hauling hay..
It started me wondering, what would a CC like ours look like with that setup?

The guy is in my offroad club and his truck is cool, but I just dont like the space between the flatbed and the frame.
True.. But the Taco I saw wasnt setup for extreme offroad and major flex.. Mostly trail, pasture, stuff like that.. Definetly was no rock crawler

I would say it should be fine as long as you dont have a 2 foot gap between the frame and the bed, or you could at least fill the holes with some sheetmetal.
