the air is better up there

Post by Maximous »

howdy all, names Max, i'm in the dessert, its hot and i miss my truck, ok anyways had to get that off my chest, hey has anyone heard of safari snorkels for s-series, another question, what are you guys using to get your 5-6in suspension lifts, well obviously you arent using miracle grow, i meant to ask what kit (year, model, company) ive already removed my nerf bars for a little extra hieght, it actually helps guys like me (still sitting on the ground) i realize they are frame height but it does help, and its so easy, 22 nuts and youre done, sure you have 11 little studs sticking out the frame on either side of the truck, but it actually even looks higher, any how, thanks for any help i get.

:moon: this doesnt really mean anything, i just thought it was funny[/img]

What flavor dessert are you in? Might try alamode if it is too hot ;) :roflmao: ( Sorry I just can't resist a spelling error like that  )

Nothing available that I have been able to find. There are some universal kits that I hear may be able to be adapted?

TM (Trailmaster) is what is available right now. Superlift is in the works.

Welcome and thanks for taking care of business in the desert

whoops, yeah i debated for like 5 minutes on the correct spelling, oh well, life goes on, TM huh, ok, am i looking for one made for the crew, or am i looking for like an ext cab lift, by the way, while im asking questions, what size tires will fit all stock, the way i figure, 31's will fit as long as they aren't too wide, hey would any of you non ZR5 guys be interested in the bed and nerf bars, they are silver (gmc) the brackets for the nerf bars are a little bent, nothing i hammer couldn't fix, i would maybe fix them myself if someone is interested, also, the bed liner, it would probably be easier to pick-up than to ship, well at least the bed liner, im from mobile ala, stationed in fort walton beach, (Hurlburt Field) so any body around these areas could get a real good deal, also maybe show me some places to ride, about the desert thing, i am in Kuwait, im on my second tour to this same base, pretty easy job, hard part is being away from future wife and current daughter, but hey im young dumb and full of.........ideas, what did you think i was gonna say, those ideas require money, so here i am

 that is where the spellcheck can't help you out

As I understand it the superlift is the only one specifically designed for the Crew Cab, but there is little difference and there are several that have used the TM kit. Check out Paul's install pics off the website.

As for stock tires , my optional 29's rubbed stock. So I'm pretty sure that 31's will definately rub without a lift.
10.5" is the narrowest 31" tire that I have seen.

Some say with a little TB crank 30's will work, but again I rubbed with 29's :D

Yes the ZR5 gets the optional offroad tires. They are 29" tall.

The standard tire size is 235/70R15 , which is 27.95275590551181 inches tall (28")

well then i confused, at the full turn, i still have like two inches of clearance, the only time i have ever rubbed is when i was being dumb doing high speed power slides in a field, the rears rubbed, at the time i had no clue what the noise was, after taking off all my tires (with the stock jack, i highly recommending no one every be that dumb again) (i did this because i had bad mud build up in my rims), that i noticed the rub marks and knew what the noises where, i think this is one of those things i will just have to prove myself wrong, when i get home from this heel hole i will pull my brothers rims off his fullsize and ride around on his 31's just to show myself that probably should have listened to everyone who said that it wouldnt work, thanks for the help though guys,

You lose more than two inches worth of clearance when you make the switch to 31's , because you are also adding width to the tire.

The rubbing of the frame is not that bad. It is the rear of the fender that becomes a real issue.
It rubs at partial turn , when the corner of the tread/sidewall comes closest and under articulation.

This is where I was able to rub even the 29's that mine came with. It did take some effort to get it to do that though ;)

I have some pics around of the great 1/2 inch clearance I have on the front fender with 31s It actually is 1/2 inch of clearance.. the day I hit a bump and turn at the same time.. the front fender will get crushed.. Unless I clip it when I get some time.. also that is with a two inch BL .. .. I rub on turns too.. I like em since it is now rarly driven. however they are a definate NO NO if you plan to off road. unless like i said you clip the fender and get some (hint hint) kcustom flares... 8)
