Skid Plates

Does the metal skid plate have a oil filter door? Does it complicate oil changes if it doesn't?

Yes, and Yes.

It is identical to the plastic front shield, only made of aluminum.

Well not having the access plate is not that all important if you want my opinion. it just takes a couples of minutes more to take off the plate and have more room to do you oil change. So having a full metal plate with no access panel wouldn't be such a fuss. Well that's what i think.

I thought I'd play the otherside of this debate

Having to remove the skid plate would both take much longer, (six bolts to remove) and potentially be a problem in the long run.
The bolts for the shield are self tapping and will get loose in the frame after excessive use, eventually leading to stripped threads in the frame.

The whole discussion is kind of useless , since the early pre-'90 shields that are everywhere, will not fit , and there are not as many '90-'95 shields w/o oil door available. I guess if you build your own it would be relevant to this debate.

IMO, spend the little extra to buy a new shield , WITH an oil door .

yes, stripping out those self tapping bolts is easy to do, i hate taking that front sheild off

I liked that filter door alot, very cool idea! ALot easyer then doing an oil change on a 02 Celica where you have to pull down all these plastic parts. But now that cross member has another cross memer welded on it with my hangers. I cant use a one any more, but now it's ALOT easyer to change my oil. I dont even need oil ramps
