tailgate spare tire rack.

Post by RebelKid1822 »

Has anyone here ever put the spare tire rack from a zr2 blazer onto their crew? I saw a picture online and i thought this would be cool. Any tips?

Sold the truck and bought an Avalanche. Someone said they saw it in Meridian,ID a few years ago.

It did unlatch on a turn and tweak the lower fender where it mounts. Noticeable to me, but did not really show.

Brule sold that truck a few years ago. When I see pewter crews, I wonder "could that be it?" Lol

With the flares and tire carrier, it is not hard to tell :)
That truck has lots of untold secrets. I sorta wish I had been able to share them.

Well ill keep you posted about mounting one. First step is finding a gently used assembly. I will definitely do something about secondary latching

Search the ZR2USA.com forums. There was a member there making and selling secondary latches for the Blazers. It i9s a pretty common failure. Mostly operator error in closing the gate ;)

Plan on the tubes and mounts being rusty. The stock coatings were thin. I had to sand and paint mine. Mostly the cast stuff.

The tailgate insert is shaped like a dog bone and uses nutserts :)

I modafyed a tire carrier for my wife's blazer using a 4x4 hub so it's lockable in any position and is mounted to the frame so no body damage :)

Kinda hacked the rear bumper for the mounting plate to the side of the hitch but I plan on build a bumper for the rear and didn't want the tire blocking to much of the back window one step at a time
