Do you find that your truck shifts from 1900rpm to 2500rpm when driving uphill on the highway. I can't keep 70mph going uphill without it downshifting and cranking up to 2500-3000  sometimes...is this ok?? :?:

On my ZR2 with the 3.73 gears, I am usually around 3000 RPM going up hill ... but man does the blazer want to fly at that RPM!!!!

I usually take it out of OD to save the tranny when going up hill ... otherwise it's trying to stay around 2000RPM so keeps shifting in and out. But when I put it on 3, at around 70 MPH I do 3000 rpm.

yes that is normal. your heavier and bigger tires are slowing you down now. so unless you re gear, thats the way it will be. going up most hills i put it in 3rd and go 55 or 60

Yea, that's one of the things I figure is eating up my gas mileage. The way I figure with multiple different formulas I find on the web, with 4.11 gears and 31's would bring me just a notch lower than 3.73's and stock 29's. It was just perfect when I was stock 29's, never downshifted much. Cant be that good on the tranny either, probably cause a bit more wear.

Wowzers, yea, I'd say some'm wrong. I really don't know my top speed, probably way to fast to be safe. 70 is nothing for my truck, plenty pep there. Prob do well over 100 I would imagine.

What you do to your engine now?

Without reprogramming the top speed limiter you won't get past 93 mph.

I set mine with the HPPIII to 110. I'll probably never take it there, but I've hit 85 or so on station responses for general alarms ;)

Well, I know I did 110 easy when I was stock. But can't be much accurate when it is going that fast.

It will go over, but it seems to have a hard time getting there. Nothing like going from 0-40.

is it more of a gear change or a hp increase to keep her in 4th going uphill on the highway? Will more hp just keep her at 70 or will she keep downshifting into 3rd? If more hp is the case, roughly how much hp will i need?

4.11 gears and you be set. Some nice high lift short duration cams would give you some nice low rmp grunt also. But which is worth it. I think gears would get you more.

Have you guys with the stuttering shift problem added a shift firmness enhancement?

The only times I have "HAD" to shift to third is for "Three Mile Hill" and "Cabbage Hill" they are both around 6% grade , I just did it to be easier on the trans, and wasn't pushing it.

I've not had the problem you guys describe, but I do have small 31's, HPIII 87 octane tuning, lowered the shift points for 2-3 and 3-4 and the shift firmness.

Just wondering if maybe the HPPIII might be a solution.

IMO, the gears would be a good investment. I'd like to be back to the stock final drive ratio. BUT, It is a pretty big investment.

Mine shifts very solid. My previous truck, 93 Dakota Sport 4x4 shuttered like crazy shifting from 2nd to 3rd up hills, going back and forth. Is that what you mean by shuddering?
