Just wondering , how much of an improvement the rs-5000's were over the stock shocks? Looking for something for mostly on road.

Compared to the stock shocks a welded steel rod would handle better. there are a number of good shock threads around including this one. shocksand this one.more shocks that should give you a good idea of how folks like the RS-5000's. I run the RSX's and love them.
