30 or 31's and mileage

Post by ZIGGY K »

Is there a big difference in mileage loss going from stock rubber to larger dia. tires ?? I am going with a 30 " Pirelli Scorpion A/T; act 29.6" dia. or a 31" Pro Comp A/T ;act 30.2" . Also does the weight of the tire influence the mileage ,because the pro comp's are 41 pounds... THANKS...

The Scorpions will be pretty much dead on if your rig is like mine. My tires are 29.7 inches and I adjusted........adjusted, and adjusted with my HPPIII and it was always off according to two diffrent GPS units, I run. I put the setting for tire size back to stock and my speedo was dead on :D

ANY time you move more weight your miles per gallon will decrease as jeff024 advised.

I'm running 31" MT/R's with 3.73 gears and get 19-21 mpg city/hwy, but I do have other mods as well.

Your mileage technically goes down because your odometer is off. Mine is off by about 5% or so with 31's.

Mine's off .15 per mile roughly. I checked it against the mile markers on the PA turnpike recently. I'm getting over 20 mpg highway w/33's.

Hey , thanks for the help !! :D With a 2" B.L. and cut rear front fenders, I think I'll go with the 31'S. I just didn't know if mileage would decrease that much to be an issue ,ya know , with the price of fuel now adays   !!!! THANKS

Man I wish I got the mileage you guys get. I average between 16 and 17 all the time. I have the 3.42 gears, stock tires, and I do mostly highway driving with a few stop and go's. I did notice running the A/C has the biggest effect on my mileage though.

Some tips that have worked for me. In order of ascending cost.

use your cruise control.
keep tach below 2000rpm.
add some more air to your tires
airbox mod.
change your fuel filter.
change your plug wires.
get a tonnaue cover.

I've got 3.73 gears and steel wheels and average 18-19 mpg
