exhaust before body/suspension lift

Post by ace »

Can anybody think of any problems with doing exhaust before either a body lift or suspension lift?

As for a BL just tell the shop that you intend to do the BL and to just keep it as high as possible at the exit. One thing I fifn't tell them is that I wanted to put a tip on later. It's too tight around my shackle to add one now. :(

Shouldn't make any diffrence on the SL because the exhaust is staying with the frame but, there are other mods to the exhaust that must be done at time of lift dependent on which one you get. :D

The Y-pipe may have to be modified for front driveshaft clearance after a suspension lift. Not sure if you're exhaust mods were going to be from te engine back or the cat back.

i would suggest waiting 'til after you get your body lift done.
the pipes are going to be mounted to the frame. if you do the exhaust before the BL wherever it exits will be in relation to the stock body mount height, and two inches lower then the original exit after the BL.

the only exception would be if you don't plan on using the bumper relocation brackets and are exiting duals out the rear.

what kind of muffler, or lack there of, are you thinking about?
don't forget to post pics :D

I am actually thinking of not using the bumper relocation brackets due to the fact I put a wiring harness receptacle where the hole gets redrilled to lower the spare. I'm also planning duals out the rear so it sounds like it might be alright doing this before the body lift. I want a custom made catback exhaust with a magnaflow muffler. I'm thinking 2.5 pipes mandrel bent. I want the gain in horsepower but I also want some good sound. Hoping the magnaflow will deliver.

In my opinion it would not be wise to do any kind of mod's to your truck if you plan on lifting it, until you lift it first. The first mod I did to my truck was the 6" SL suspension lift, then I did tires. After that I went to the local muffler shop and had my exhaust customized to match everything, which took some doing because the first time they did it and I came back to pick up my truck, I did not like what they did and had them do it over. Knowing that I might go with bigger tires, the way they had originally installed the exhaust it might have caused rubbing issues and the manager of the shop agreed. That's why I had them do it over. This is just the experience I had and just giving you some food for thought.
