bds lift for non zr2 s-10

Post by jeffc »

hey i just wanted to let everyone know there is going to be another lift for ours trucks. i was at a local 4x4 shop this weekend and i told the guy i ordered a 5"tm and he said you should call bds. i said i think their kit is only for the zr2 but he said he knows someone at bds that says otherwise(i live in michigan kinda near bds) i called them and they said they do have a proto type crew cab that was at indiana 4x4 fest. they said it was a modified version of their zr2 kit. he said there was no pricing yet but i was told to keep watching their web site. he mentioned jan of 05 but we all know how those dates can change. not sure if people know trailmaster used to be in coldwater mi but moved when smittybuilt bought them. the rumor is half the people stayed in mi and started working for bds which is also in coldwater.

Jeff, ignore hobie (a2b) - he's the resident board naysayer :-)

But he does have a point, Of the companies that have all announced, or discussed making non-zr2 lifts, none have come though yet with a kit that any of us could pick up a phone, or drive down to the local 4x4 shop, and order one of the kits.

At least we know the Superlift kit exists, but the production kit has not yet started shipping.

Did the BDS guys give any info on how the kit was going to work? Bolt on to stock suspension mounting points, or require cutting and welding like the TM lift? Torsion bar relocation? Skidplates? Most importantly, Price?

Personally, if I were buying one, I would go with the Superlift kit, cause I can drive across town and pick it up directly from Superlift and save me some shipping fees, and get parts swapped out if something in the box isn't right.

i tried to find out how the kit was going to work but the only thing the guy at bds said was that the kit is a modified version of thier zr2 kit.he said some parts from the zr2 kit work and other parts are new. i'm not familiar with that kit so i'm not sure how it will work/go on a truck. he said they didn't have pricing yet but to keep checking their web site. as for myself i already ordered a trailmaster kit but i'm still waiting on it and trying to find out if it got back ordered. not that it matters because my brand new truck has been in the dealer getting repainted. i had it for 3 days and they've had it for 14. gotta love that thin yellow paint.

that thin yellow paint that you pay extra for too right? Isn't there a special surcharge to get yellow?

i'm not sure if they charged extra for the paint or not. it was the last s-10 on the dealers lot. i do know they don't like to stand behind their products. they said i should deal with it and i might not get new paint unless the factory rep says it's ok to paint it and that might take a couple weeks to talk to him. funny how you talk to lawyer and 5 min later they call you back saying go ahead and bring the truck in.

That's just the dealerships these days.

But it's not a chevy, or even a GM thing. I have heard service department horror stories from about every make and model of vehicle owner.

Buddy of mine has owned 3 recent VW's, GTI, Eurovan camper, and a Jetta 1.8T. Loved them all. Dealer in shreveport was stellar in servicing them. He moved to Boulder, colorado, and bought a new Jetta Wagon to carry the dogs in. Had some little nagging problems with it. Delaer was less than helpful, one time they put a dent in his car while servicing it. He tried working a deal on it since they couldnt fix the little problems with the car, and they wouldn't play ball, so he lemon lawed it. After he got that process running -- all they wanted to do was talk, but he told them that the time for that had passed. He ended up making money on the deal.
